Ecolink Chime+Siren (700 series) volume too low for chimes tones I add

I just set up an Ecolink Chime+Siren (700 series). It is the perfect device for my needs:

  • 700-series
  • Battery backed siren
  • Chime for which user can supply tones
  • Repeater
  • Plugs directly into an outlet

My intent is to replace some Aeotec gen5 chimes (from the Aeotec gen5 doorbell) and Aeotec gen5 sirens with these (this one device fills both roles).

Real long shot, but here is the challenge I am hitting...

I have my own tones I want to use for various chimes (same ones I am currently using on my Aeotec gen5 chimes). I've properly formatted the tones for the Ecolink per the documentation that came with the unit (16-bit, 16kHz, mono .wav file), installed them on a microSD plugged into the unit per the documentation, and my tones don't play was loud as the tones built into the unit (and are too low volume for my application). I even went as far as to massage the .wav files in an audition processing app (Audicity) to be sure the files themselves were as loud as they could be without clipping.

Anyone else using the Ecolink Chime+Siren (700 series) device with their own tones and having this same problem?

Hello! I am curious about this as well... I need to replace an aging Aeotec Siren 5 which has been working great but is only Z-Wave and the Aeotec Siren 6 does not have custom sound capability.

What happens if you lower the wav file sound? Maybe there is some sort of filter that kicks in if it's too loud.

I'll give that a try, might not be for another few days.

The EcoLink does have built in siren sounds similar to the Aeotec Siren 5 and about as loud as the Aeotec Siren 5, so if that's all you want (you are not adding your own sounds) the EcoLink should be fine for you.

For now I've turned the volume up all the way on the EcoLink and it's marginally okay playing just the tones I added, but were I to play and of the built in non-siren tones, they would be too loud.

interesting thanks for the heads up.. yeah I usually play a bicycle tone on door opening and a cathedral like doorbell chime.. will have to see. Also looking at piping the sound through my Sonos speakers.

I just picked one of these up and can confirm the custom sounds, even most of the stock ones on the device, are very low volume compared to a couple of the sirens. It seems that the main siren alarm sounds may be using a separate siren emitter, while the other chimes and custom loaded ones are played on a regular speaker.

Slightly dissapointed as my dome siren can play a variety of tones and chimes through its emitter quite loudly, I was hoping the Ecolink would have more chimes that utilized the emitter rather than the speaker. I also think I may start sending non critical chimes to something like my google minis, since I have a million of those floating around.

Anyone have a comparison of the Ecolink to the Zooz ZSE19 (S2 Multisiren) and the custom sounds?

my ZSE19 was much easier to get sounds on, and my 3rd party sounds are plenty loud. I have one of a horror movie scream that will make your ears bleed.
The ecolink 700 is nice but 3rd party sounds suck, barely audible

ZSE19? Guide me please, I need siren/chime badly.

The ZSE19 was made by Zooz, they don't make it any longer. I have searched for used/overstock, nothing comes up, but you might get lucky.

I have replaced the ZSE19 with this ecolink, but the clarity of the speaker for announcements is not great comparatively. It is a bit muffled even after playing with conversion/sound level settings. The sound files are clear playing them on my phone, so would seem to be something with the Ecolink hardware.

Also had the Ecolink totally fail to Alert when HSM was set off (set as siren), luckily had backup options in place.

Damn. Thanks for explanation. What Z-wave gen is Aeotec Siren 6?
