I'm getting ready to receive my HE. As part of prep, I know I have one front door that I will want a contact sensor for to trigger some automations. Since I only need one, maybe 2 as I only have 2 doors on my townhome, what brand / model should I purchase?
The doors have SimpliSafe (previous version) sensors now, and I don't think I can use them to trigger automations, correct??
Welcome to the community. I use the gocontrol contact sensors on my doors. I have several and they've been rock solid for me. But, my mesh is well established. The reason I use them is because they're versatile to be used with other things since they have internal relays that allow diy integration for other applications.
Just starting, you may experience issues if you're starting slowly like most of us do. You may want to read the getting started documentation in the community and come up with a plan so that you minimize frustration. If you haven't already. Seems you're doing your homework.
For battery operated contact sensors and motion I like zigbee. Typically longer battery life and faster reporting.
There are a few zigbee contact sensors with 5 year battery life, too, which is cool (Nyce and visonic mct-350 come to mind). The Nyce are more expensive, but are also really small physically.
