I tried to connect my aeotec nano dimmer today securely but it didn't seem to work so had to connect it normally. It comes up as a 'aeon micro dimmer' s not sure if that makes any difference? Is this something that is supported in the UK?
Pretty sure the UK version comes with an Aeon Z-Stick as the controller, which should also support this, but I'm sure Support or another UK user can chime to say in for certain. Besides the manual that came with the product, you might want to search for a newer manual online or just search and see what people say about pairing the device--I've seen the in-box instructions be wrong before about how to initiate secure pairing (and many will "fall back" if secure doesn't succeed, so it may be extra surprising you're not getting anything).
Using the Aeon Z-Stick:
Again, US, but the Z-Stick (and Hub) supports it.
i just get this when i join it securely using the double tap.
if i join it with one click it says active but doesn't say secure.
Also if i do the secure way i have to manually select Aeon Micro dimmer as it says unknown otherwise.
@mike.maxwell is this correct? Also on Aeotec's website they have a official grovey DH for their devices, they are for ST but they have all the parameters for setting up their devices built in to them. I tried to port it but had some errors that i don't understand to do with the parameter screen, I managed to port the fibaro UBS with a parameter screen so not sure what's different with this one
Maybe a silly question, but are you sure that secure pairing is initiated by double-tapping the button on the device?
I ask because I recently paired two other aeotec devices to my hub (siren and doorbell), each paired securely without difficulty when I triple-tapped the button on each device.
I couldn’t find anything on aeotec’s website that confirmed the devices need to be triple tapped (aeotec’s website has always been a total UX nightmare IMHO). But I vaguely recalled reading that’s how at least one of them is supposed to pair securely, probably from an old thread in the ST forum.
Including Nano Dimmer as a basic secure device:
If you want your Nano Dimmer as a basic secure device in your Z-Wave network, press the Action Button once on Nano Dimmer when you pair it to your gateway. If inclusion is successful, the green LED will be on for 2 seconds, and then return to a solid indication. If inclusion is unsuccessful, the red LED will be on for 2 seconds and then return to a colourful gradient.
Including Nano Dimmer as a advanced secure device:
In order to take full advantage of the Nano Dimmer, you will want your Nano Dimmer as a security device that uses encrypted messages to communicate in your Z-wave network. A security enabled controller/gateway (or Z-Wave Plus controller) is required.
1. Set your Z-Wave Plus controller into pairing mode.
2. Press the Action Button 2 times within 1 second on the Nano Dimmer, the blue LED (advanced secure indication) will blink to indicate the Nano Dimmer is entering into advanced secure pairing mode.
3. If the Nano Dimmer has been successfully added to your Z-Wave network, its RGB LED will be solid. If the pairing was unsuccessful, the red LED will be on for 2 seconds and then remain a colourful gradient, repeat the instructions above from step 1.
@marktheknife from their user guild on their website
I would not put it past them to have incorrect instructions listed.
What happens if you triple tap when pairing the device? Not saying that’ll definitely work, but should be easy enough to try it out.
not sure i'll give it a go now
edit: Nothing happens on 3 only on one or two
having said that this time I connected it, it now have this.
- deviceType: 3
- zwaveSecurePairingComplete: true
- inClusters: 0x5E,0x86,0x72,0x5A,0x73,0x98,0x85,0x59,0x25,0x26,0x27,0x32,0x70,0x81,0x71,0x2C,0x2B,0x7A
- outClusters: 0x82
- deviceId: 111
- manufacturer: 134
but it doesn't work at all now
Yea, one click for insecure join. If the micro driver works you're g2g.
No don't think it does work, most of it works when it's insecure joined. But if it's securely joined none of it works oddly?
The aeon micro driver isn't a secure driver, you can't pair secure and use that driver.
Most of it works?, what doesn't work...
That would explain it, is there a inbuilt secure driver available yet? If not I will have ago again to port the Aeon ST official one.
When it's insecure paired only the on and off buttons work. The configure button sends a command so I'm guessing that also works although all I see in the logs it's just the command and nothing else back.
