I have three Hubitat Hubs. All are running 2.3.3.125 and are Rev c-7 hardware. One is in my main house and the other 2 are in outbuildings. I have hub mesh activated and I've run across something odd that has just started in the past few days.
My main hub has lost contact with several of its Z-wave devices (2 Kwikset locks and 2 Aotech repeaters. It has also developed spotty connectivity to some of my Zigbee devices.
I have not added any devices in about 3 weeks. Today, in an effort to reestablish connectivity with my locksets (something that has worked fine for the past year) I tried to add another Aotech (type 6) repeater. It wouldn't add. It would exclude right away, but no matter what I do (factory reset, exclude, include it wouldn't add.)
Not sure if it was an issue with the device I went to each of my other Hubitats and easily added and removed it from them.
That's when I started poking around and discovered that in addition to 2 of my locks, 2 of my repeaters weren't working (and 2 are working perfectly and are in the path for several devices.) I tried removing one of the non working repeaters and the exclude remove went perfectly. I then reset it to factory and tried to add it again (literally 2 feet from my hub) and it behaved like the earlier repeater I described. I then took it to another Hubitat and it excluded/included/excluded/removed just fine.
I've tried a reboot and I've had my hub shut down for a hour, just to see what effect that has but I am puzzled by this behavior. I also have a ring alarm system but again, no devices added or removed in many months.
Has anyone encountered this? It started earlier this week for me.
No, but when either the zigbee or z-wave radio enters a "funky" state, a power cycle will fix it. Not a reboot, but a shutdown (from the menu) followed by turning off power and then turning it back on again.
When removing power, do it from the outlet end, and not the hub's microUSB connector.
The reason for unplugging at the wall is that the USB connection isn't meant to be plugged and unplugged repeatedly, and there is a risk of breaking the port off the board if done roughly or frequently.
Can you describe how you did this? Like where (what menu) did you access the remove button, and what did you do with the device?
First, the second power off (for an hour or so) seem to resolve the situation. The incommunicado devices are all communicating again.
Here’s the process I followed with each hub when I was adding the S6 repeater.
factory reset repeater by plugging in and holding down the button until it was displaying the rainbow pattern indicating successful reset.
add device (Aotech repeater S6) in Hubitat device menu.
choose z-wave start exclusion button(immediately changes to stop exclusion button)
press button on aotech; stop exclusion button immediately changes to start exclusion and aotech returns to rainbow light mode. (Worked on all hubs)
press start inclusion button. Starts 90 second process.
6)single press button on aotech. Aotech starts blinking green
On 2 of my hubs the device was found (blinking green ended and Light was out) and I went thru the rest of the steps of adding it (naming, room, etc.). I then went through the removal steps.
On the hub I ended up rebooting it was never found. The green light blinked for approx 15-20 seconds and then flashed red.
