Denon AVR Control Driver. May 2023, new functions

Does anyone know if this will work with a Denon AVR-1912?
I have an opportunity to switch out my even older receiver with no HDMI to that Denon. But I only want to make this effort if it would actually work with Hubitat.

I made the newest edits with their AVR-1000 telnet support paper.. I presume you should be able to use every function I wrote for it.

If not, just find out which don't work and avoid them.

Yeah, the AVR-1912 is from 2011 and supposedly Denon's Iphone app works with it, but Denon's own Android app does not work with these older models - only 2014 and newer.
Thus, I'm a bit concerned there is something inherent to these that might make connecting it to HE difficult.
Any insight on that?

It's a very easy install and the telnet protocol has been available for a long time with these Denons

Install and see if it works... Takes out the speculation

I'm sure it is.

That would mean I would need to first expend the funds to acquire the Denon AVR-1910, and secondly, expend the time and effort in connecting it to my system. As per my post above:

I only want to make this effort if it would actually work with Hubitat.

Thanks,

For some reason, I thought you already owned it.

If the thing has an IP address, you can almost guarantee it will work.

If you have the chance to try it out before acquisition, just download a telnet app on your phone and connect to the network the Denon is connected to.

If it responds on port 23 (I think) with the telnet app, you can try the commands in my uploaded PDF at the beginning of this thread.

Very easy to do

The prefix and the function is part of the same word.

So, MSQUICK4 MEMORY for example.

You didn’t make it very clear that you don’t own this receiver yet.

What does the device’s manual or denon support website say about IP control?

Sorry I was not clear about not yet owning it. I believe it does have an IP address. Searching the archived manual at Denon.com does not return anything for the phrase "IP control." However, it states the below when searching "IP." I don't know much about this stuff, so do not have a full understanding of what any of this means, but am I correct to gather it will work with HE?

With this unit, it is possible to use the DHCP and Auto IP functions
to make the network settings automatically.
• When using this unit with the broadband router’s DHCP function
enabled, this unit automatically performs the IP address setting and
other settings.
When using this unit connected to a network with no DHCP
function, make the settings for the IP address, etc., at ā€œNetwork
Setupā€ (vpage 88).

It also says the following:

• IP Address : Set the IP address within the ranges shown below.
The Network Audio function cannot be used if other IP addresses
are set.
CLASS A: 10.0.0.1 – 10.255.255.254
CLASS B: 172.16.0.1 – 172.31.255.254
CLASS C: 192.168.0.1 – 192.168.255.254
• Subnet Mask : When connecting an xDSL modem or terminal
adapter directly to this unit, input the subnet mask indicated in
the documentation supplied by your provider. Normally input
255.255.255.0.
• Default Gateway : When connected to a gateway (router), input its
IP address.
• Primary DNS, Secondary DNS : If there is only one DNS address
indicated in the documentation supplied by your provider, input it at
ā€œPrimary DNSā€. If there are two or more DNS addresses, input the
first one at ā€œSecondary DNSā€

Either my driver or the built in driver should work (or both).

I honestly don't see a reason it wouldn't.

I agree with @abuttino, since it has an Ethernet port and can connect to your LAN, it’s very, very likely to work with Denon’s IP control protocol.

There is a plugin for Homebridge I use to bring my denon AVR’s into IOS. It is local control just like the HE integration.

https://github.com/grzegorz914/homebridge-denon-tv/blob/main/README.md

That plugin has a parameter called ā€œgenerationā€ which is used to indicate the vintage of the AVR being controlled. Setting ā€œ0ā€ covers receivers from 2010-2012.

Based on this, it should work with the model you are contemplating purchasing.

That’s using the same underlying Denon protocol. What’s the advantage of not using the direct integration with Hubitat?

I just wanted to use the IOS home app to control volume. Since I had Homebridge running already and the plugin was so well supported, I integrated it through HB instead of HE.

Edit: also, the plugin gives amazing customization options for IOS.

There are several valid points to using my driver.

Mostly webcore integration:

At a certain time of day, have the driver take your receiver out of/into midnight mode using Quick buttons.

Dim the display at a certain time or if curtains are shut and you want more darkness.

Put the receiver in a different sound mode or get it 'unstuck' from an undesired mode (Auro-2D sticks at times)

With HEOS commands, I automatically turn the music on outdoors if I open the back porch door and it senses motion so I can hear music when I'm in the back yard.

This is just an example of how I use this Denon driver (and the heos driver) with Webcore.

Don't see a need to do things manually when you have a home automation hub, other than volume and input switching.

I like Apple’s Home app and also use Homebridge for a few things.

But in general if I can connect a device directly to Hubitat, I’m going to do that whenever possible.

What model do you have?

I’ve used a couple with Hubitat over the years, currently have a Marantz SR8015.

Pretty nice unit? I was looking at one, trying to figure out what to upgrade to since my X4500 took a ā– ā– ā– ā–  on Friday. Thinking about a 6700

Oh yeah it’s great. Drives the 7.2.4 setup in my basement theater really well :slightly_smiling_face:. I’ve liked Marantz AVRs for quite a while. Haven’t actually used much Denon branded hardware to compare to.

Bought the AVR 1912 and finally got it all set up and connected to my network.
Installed your driver and got the Denon connected to that.

If the AVR 1912 is on, I can use your driver to turn it off.
If the AVR 1912 is off, it will not turn on using your (or the Hubitat native) Denon driver. I am not sure if this is because While it is off, under current states, it displays "networkStatus: Offline"

Is there a way to fix this? Being able to turn it on and off from HE was one of the main reasons I bought this thing...
