Sure would like to see the system default directly to the dashboard display if only one has been created. Would save what seems like an unnecessary step each time to select "Dashboards" on left panel and then select my only dashboard again on main panel to get it to display. Maybe there is a trick I'm missing?

Every dashboard has a direct URL, so you can bookmark that URL in a desktop or mobile browser, or save the link to your Home Screen on a phone/tablet.
If you are referring to the mobile app, you can configure it to load a specific dashboard from the settings menu by pasting the dashboard URL in, see screenshot below:
