Hi, I'm using C8 Pro here and looking to setup the dashboard-
How can I add a dashboard tile to control an action within an android app (using on a tablet for a dashboard). We use ButterflyMX for our gate controller and I'd like to be able to hit a button on the dashboard to activate the gate (currently done via the butterflymx app). Thoughts?
There is supposedly an integration of Butterflymx with Alexa, but I've not gone this route yet.
Unless there is some kind of API for the gate, the best I can think of, aside from Alexa, would be using Tasker + AutoInput, but I am not that familiar with AutoInput myself, and I am pretty sure it would take the focus away from the dashboard on your tablet, which would not be ideal. So no is probably the answer from me, but maybe you could investigate something utilising AutoInput, even if on a different Android device.
I see.
I can think of many scenarios where I'd like an app on the device (tablet/phone etc) to be controlled by a tile or 'virtual switch' on the hubitat dashboard app. It is really something too hard to be done in a simple manner? I'll give some examples -
Hubitat tile to start favorite playlist from Wiim app to play music on my Wiim Amp connected to my sound system
Hubitat tile to show my Sleep number bed pressure and up/down adjust it if I need to
.... to open up MyQ app and click on the open/close garage door button
.... to control specific Roku streamer device and go to Netflix or Disney on there?
Hmmm..... Not natively or through some existing App that I am aware of....
One project that I am aware of may be considering options to at least open third-party apps on an Android device, but I would not rely on the timeliness of the developer to deliver a solution anytime soon....
I don't think I have mentioned launching third-party apps on my posts, but it is something I have played with and have working locally on one of my tablets.... Loading Fully Kiosk (my EcoWitt Dashboard) during the day or a clock App through the night... All controlled via Tasker.... (I should really release some of the stuff I have done recently....)
To answer your question a little more directly... If you are familiar with Tasker, you may want to look at it as an option to do what you want, if not, then my app may become an option, but it may take some time....
I'd also add, some of the "app" control you are after, that could be problematic longer term, compared to controlling devices using an API. Both are fraught with problems resulting from changes in the future, but I would suggest relying on the layouts of an App are probably less reliable than an API.
A solution may be a little premature, but if you find what you need, which is likely not there yet, that's great. If you don't find what you need. "poke" me.... I tend to respond to people asking for help .....
This works better than I expected when I tried it. I use it to reboot my phone every few days and have done a couple of other things successfully. I would think the OP would have better success using it on a static wall tablet than a phone that could be anywhere or being used extensively.
