Dashboard bulbs turn On, but physically remain Off

So here's an update on this issue:

  1. At the time of the OP, I had 25 Sengled bulbs and 3 Zigbee repeaters. Based on some of the earlier comments, I purchased a 5 pack of Iris 3210-L2 Zigbee repeaters off eBay for a good price, and put them into service (so now 8 repeaters for 25 devices . . . . )
  2. The hub is at the correct/current FW: 2.1.6.118
  3. The old Wink 2 is Off.
  4. I moved the Hub about 8 feet away from the router
  5. Zigbee logs shows an RSSI of-59 to -64 for all devices, with LQI between 252 to 255.
  6. Zigbee Ch is set to 20.
  7. have powered down the HUB for > 20 mins to restart/reset the mesh

After all of that, the problem persists, and random devices will sporadically turn On in the Dashboard without any human interaction, but will remain physically Off. I am at wits end, and at this time I am contemplating returning it to Amazon for a replacement - since it seems to be either a software bug (in which case other folks would see the same problem) or it is hardware . . . .

Any thoughts?

I re-read the above and it's still not clear to me whether you've isolated this as a Dashboard issue or not. Ideally, Dashboard should show you the same thing that the device's page (the "edit" page, as some people call it per the URL) does in the admin UI. Have you verified whether the switch attribute there, which will be either on or off, matches what you see in Dashboard? If that goes on and off at random like your Dashboard, then we can remove Dashboard from the equation; if it doesn't, then you likely have a Dashboard-only problem. Neither would likely have a particularly easy fix, but a Dashboard-only problem would likely be a bit easier (have you tried a different device or browser? If you create a different Dashboard with the same devices, does it happen there, too? does LAN vs. cloud matter? is it OK if you manually refresh the webpage?).

I could go on. But I think it's best to narrow down the actual issue first.

I call it a "Dashboard" issue, since after all devices/groups/dashboards have been created, I exclusively use the DB to manage devices on a day to day basis. Here are the answers to your questions:

  1. The Devices switch attributes do reflect the same status as the DB for the random devices.
  2. LAN & Cloud have the same behavior
  3. Issue shows up on all dashboards where the the device in question appear
  4. Browser refresh or a different PC does not change anything
  5. The "problem" devices are random, and not limited to the same devices and/or groups

What browser are you using? I hope it isn't IE or Edge, neither of which are recommended (or supported).

In any event, I suggest considering @bravenel's comment. This is unlikely to be a hardware issue.

What browser are you using? Just curios.

Firefox. But the discrepancy also shows up in the Android App . . . .

I just discovered this thread that notes some issues with Sengled and the (new-ish) dedicated driver for them that may account for the behavior you're seeing: Sengled Element Classic driver wonky

THANKS! That is it! Same deal, but with some variances.

I guess now change the device driver to the appropriate generic zigbee driver and see if the problem goes away. I had this happening as well.

So I changed all the Sengleds to Generic Zigbee Bulbs, and the phantom lights on issue has stopped - so the Sengled driver is the culprit. Will now wait for an updated driver, or just stick with the generic . . .

@mike.maxwell Just checking if you are aware of this issue? Seem to be more than one person having the issue. I only found this thread because I have just ordered a few Sengled Element bulbs to test and was checking what driver to use. Not sure what the best advice is now?
