Based on the first post, it sounds like he already tried that, but still may be worth another shot.
But that is one heckuva old (4+ years) version to update from... Is it possible that you just can't jump that far all at once?
Edit:
Tagging @bobbyD -- Bobby, is it possible to do an update from this far back, or is some sort of stepping-stone progression needed in a case like this?
I missed that part. There is possibilities that there were changes that have to build off each other and the gap is to far. Wish I could say I haven't had that happen on something else.
That could be an issue. Our engineers usually do regression testing for up to a year old updates. Generally there are no issues updating from older versions, but it could happen. Will try to replicate.
Is this the first time you've tried to update? Have you had this hub for long, or purchased it running the current version. It's possible that you have blocked the ip addresses that AWS uses to send the update, and that effectively would make updating your hub impossible.
I would start by lowering the router's firewall level. If you have a residential router and you set it up with highest security level, that would effectively block the hub to receive updates.
