I am also and have a machine (ResMed).
I find that when I am on my back, my apneas skyrocket and so do my breathing stops.
I fall asleep on my side (left/right... doesn't matter), but during the night I toss and turn leading to a lousy sleep.
I tried the mouth pieces but they force my jaw too far forward and I wind up taking it out.
Can you sleep on your back successfully?
Thanks! Looks better than the one I tried a while back.
Yes, I sleep fine on my back with CPAP on, but I have a low to moderate case of sleep Apnea. I also use the Resmed machine.
I just got one of theirs. The airsense 10.... Not sure how I feel about it yet though. My pressure setting is at 10 with a 5 min ramp time...
I have the Airsense 10 also.
My pressures are 10.0 to 12.0 with a 5 minute ramp.
I have tried higher pressures but that just leads to leaks that are not productive, so I lowered it back to 12.0 max.
I use the resmed f30i hybrid mask because I sleep with my mouth open (REAL dry mouth), and a full face mask hurts the bridge of my nose.
That looks very similar to the ResMed F30I hybrid that I am using.
Thanks for the pic.
You guys finding this style comfortable. Looks a little strange to me but I am getting a little tired of the full face mask...
I've worn both, and I think my answer is - it depends on your max pressure settings/needs. With somewhat smaller sealing line the under nose need to be pretty darn tight at high pressures. That will bother some more than others.
I need HIGH pressure, but still wear the dreamwear as I prefer it vs over nose, in spite of how tight I have to crank it on my face. Certainly tighter than I had to wear my traditional over the nose versions.
Itβs typically a pretty personal choice as it does depend on pressures that are needed to adequately prevent obstructive events, whether you tend to breathe with mouth open/closed while asleep, how sensitive you are to that claustrophobic feeling of having a fuller face mask on, etc.
A sleep specialist should hopefully have staff available that can work with their patients on finding the right mask interface to optimize adherence to the prescribed settings.
It's pretty comfortable.... I like it much better than the full face...I can't do pillow style so this was perfect
Been good for me - never have any problems w/it, reliable and effective.
My father gave me some $ and wants me to get a get a travel CPAP machine, so starting to look into that. It's funnyk, he's more excited about it from a "new toy" perspective than I am.
I dunno, the unit is small enough to travel with (and comes with a travel case)
Yeah, and the case is actually very well designed. I see them by the dozen every time I go into an airport.
I initially tried the nose pillow, but I open my mouth when I sleep so that creates a HUGE leak and dries my mouth out big time.
I am on a couple of sleep apnea forums and the resmed f30i seemed to be one of the most liked at the time (about 3 years ago).
I did go to my "sleep specialist" and he said I need a full face for the higher pressures I was trying to run the machine at, but that just resulted in a very sore nose bridge so I went back to my hybrid.
I know there are some full face masks that don't mess up your nose because they have memory foam rather than the silicon, but Medicare doesn't cover the higher mask change frequency so I will stick with the hybrid for now.
It is pretty much a personal preference/need as to what mask works the best.
I have heard alot of positive opinions about the Dreamwear mask also.
Should we start a new thread? Seems like this thread has been hyjacked, but informative.
I split all the recent CPAP posts into a new one for you. Feel free to give it a better title.
I have used the Philips Dreamwear Pillows from the beginning (for me, about 2018), been very happy. Other family members have grappled with different varieties of masks. That said, I expect other... life factors.... impact my experience... but in terms of my CPAP experience, I've been very happy with the pillows experience. I do get it won't suit everyone.
Also, I am currently using a RESMED 10, not the AirSense model, didn't seem necessary (had it as the test machine when working out I needed one). It is reporting that the internals are pushing past the max date for the internals.... I'll start looking soon for a replacement....
On the automation front.... my use of a smart plug to detect when I get back into bed has been rock-solid....
I do find it funny how the models who showcase the product almost never look like someone who is likely to need a CPAP machine.... They typically look like someone who just came from modelling for the local menswear store....
TBH.... I never really saw the benefit to detecting when I put the mask back on.... i.e. the air sense part....
