Control a 12v motor to run both directions

Is there a Zwave or ZigBee solution for a way to reverse polarity to a 12V motor so I can turn off, turn on to run clockwise, and turn on to run counter-clockwise?

If you don’t find something suitable then you could always use a dpdt relay and control it with a ‘switch’ maybe a shelly 1

@Cobra ’s suggestion is a good one. I have done this many times to control various motors (just not with Zigbee or Z-wave for remote or automated control but with a physical switch) but with a Shelly 1 you could very easily replace a physical switch to control for home automation.

I bought one of these for my garage door opener and it says it can work with a motor:

My first thought was Zen17

@stephen_nutt It looks as though Qubino Shutter DC (Z Wave) should do it. Works with 12 - 24V DC motors and is 2 wire connection so will work on polarity reversal.

I already own a spare one of these so I like the suggestion. Is it as simple as wiring the motor to one Normally Open relay in one polarity and the other Normally Open relay in the opposite polarity and making sure both relays are never closed at the same time? This is new territory for me.

Nice that this unit is already all-in-one out of the box and pretty inexpensive as well. Good suggestion. Being an old electronics DIY guy, I built stuff like this from scratch but this is much easier! Good find.

Regarding wiring, the manual includes a drawing that also includes an external switch for manual operation.

I never RTFM when I used my first one for garage door opener but I just read the manual. It has a DC Motor Mode that prevents both relays from being closed at same time. That sounds perfect!
