If you look at the right picture, I have both half a disc magnet on the front side of the track and the original plastic contained magnet on the back of the track - so that lots of magnet.

This! I was playing with other contact sensors with a similar setup and I got this type of event too. Sliding the magnet versus just moving away from the sensor will cause the magnetic lines to trigger the sensor two to three times or more depending on the size of the magnet and sensor.
