Contact Sensor - blend in to trim - film or stain case?

Hope this is allowed even though it is not directly related to automation.

Most of my contact sensors are hidden - they are either the Slim strip type, or the recessed door type. However, to track the status of the sliding door locks, I used surface mounted sensors. The bright white sensor does not look that great on a medium brown stained door.

What have you done to make your contact sensors or other devices for aesthetically acceptable?

I've thought of:

  • Color the case with a permanent marker
  • Stain the case
  • Cover the case with a colored film
I like the last option best but am sort of struck out looking for a film. Any ideas?

Ecolink has brown ones.

Thank you for the info however that one won't work in my application. I have to use the Zooz one that is 0.3" thick.

So now that is works, I need to figure out how to make it blend in...

I have several of them. You are more picky than I am, lol.

There was a big thread about this subject not long ago.
I think paint from a rattle can was a common response.
There's probably advice in there, like very light coats, for no drips, etc.
It's not like you're going to practice on a bunch of sensors, although you could practice on something similar.
I think the hardware store sells spray cans of paint suitable for plastic.
I looked at the finish on one of mine, and it's not shiny, so maybe you don't have to do any prep at all.
Remember that you have to take it apart to replace the battery.
