Connecting to Aqara Hub M3

Hello everyone, it's been a while.

I have a short question for my understanding, because I've never done this before. I was thinking about getting into the Aqara-ecosystem, since Hubitat is now supporting several devices, including the M3 Hub. What I don't understand is, what connecting this hub to my C7 is giving me in advantage. Can I use devices in this case, for which hubitat doesn't provide the drivers? Can I create virtual devices, which can be controlled by the Aqara hub? Sorry for the basic question...

The main advantage is that the Aqara devices are best supported by Aqara hubs - all Aqara-specific settings / configurations, and also have much better stability - the problematic old generation Aqara motion sensors, contact sensors, etc... never lose connection to Aqara hubs.

Aqara Radiator Thermostat E1, for example, can use an external temperature sensor for thermostat control when used in the Aqara M3 hub. The direct Zigbee integration of the Aqara TRV in HE does not support this feature.

The Matter Bridge integration works the other way around - the Aqara devices that are paired to the Aqara M3 should be visible as child devices and be controlled by the Hubiat hub.

Note, that not all Aqara Zigbee devices are exported via Aqara hubs to other ecosystems.

Hey, thanks for the quick and easy answer.

The child devices are only the ones, which are natively supported by HE or also other ones, like the FP2?

The child devices that are usable in Hubitat must meet two requirements at the same time:

  1. Aqara hubs to export the device via Matter Bridge, FP2 as an example is NOT exported by Aqara hubs via Matter
  2. Hubitat Generic Matter Bridge driver to support the type of the device. Aqara locks as an example are NOT supported in Hubitat (at this moment).

Both conditions must be met at the same time.

Ah, okay, then a workaround is needed. Thanks for your quick answers.

It is more of a Matter Bridges limitations, but both sides are improving the number of the supported bridged devices.

This is a list of what was tested to work and which Aqara devices were not working via the Matter Bridge - one year ago... The list may be not accurate at the moment, it needs to be udpated.
