I am a bit confused about this Matter over Thread. Don't you have to add a device to a Thread Network first and than share it over Matter?
Yes, but apparently the Meross app handles that for you (entirely possible with the iOS app and an Apple TV or HomePod, quite likely something similar for Google Home and Android, and hopefully less of a concern for any manufacturer once Thread 1.4 becomes commonplace ... or was that a Matter revision, too?).
Most users won't really know when they are adding something to a Thread network specifically; as long as they have a TBR, it's all usually magic in the background.
For the Android I had to share a Thread credentials from the TBR to the phone. Only after this was done the Android was able to add a device. Before yesterday I didn't have any TBRs so I added a TBR capability to the HA.
Not sure what you mean by this...you have HA running on a device that has a Thread radio and you enabled it, or you physically added a Thread radio via a new USB device attached to the device HA is running on?
Yes, physically added ZBT-2 USB Zigbee/Thread radio and all required sw components.
Oooo...I might do that to my Pi running HA. Hadn't thought of doing that.
Easy to add?
Yes, very easy. Plug in USB cable. Add "Open Thread Network Router" add-on. Configure ZBT-2 as a Thread Device and enable sharing Thread Credentials. Add "Matter" integration. On the Android phone I had to enable Thread Network and store the shared credentials. That is about it.
Sounds good. Thanks for the info.
I've been trying to do this "easy" thing for days on mele Quieter 4C (intel N150). Are you running Hass, Matter & Open Thread Border Router under Docker, or on the Pi directly?
My ZBT-2 sticks a middle finger up everything HASS tries to flash it. Lol

Hardware is ODROID-N2+ with 4Gb of RAM. OS is Home Assistant OS. Nothing else is running on this box. It is dedicated to HA only.
Somewhere I red ZBT-2 does not like USB-3 ports and happy only if pluged in pure USB-2 port. My box has only USB-3 ports (4 of them). So far ZBT-2 is happy, no issues.
Yeah. The Mele only seems to have USB-3 as well. I read the same thing.
I've got a Pi-5 laying around collecting dust. Perhaps I'll do a bare metal install on that...if I can successfully flash the ZBT-2 to Thread on that, then I might be able to move the ZBT-2 back to the Docker instance.... Easy HA. Lol
Thanks!

As it was suggested you can buy a very cheap USB-2 hub and use it inbetween your HA Box and ZBT-2 toy. Your idea to flash ZBT-2 outside your box maynot work because if this a port related issue it will be back once you reconect it to your original box. Communication could be unstable. This is a reason (unstable communication) why you cannot flash it. In my case ZBT-2 is happy being connected to the USB-3 port.
Good point. Well, there are other hosts too, perhaps I'll try one with a genuine USB 2 port. And the logs did seem to indicate instability. What a pita!
Update: backburnered a bit. I have successfully used a Zemismart M1 hub to onboard my Level Bolt. Whether I can share that to HASS is an open question! ![]()
