Confused user: Zigbee on C-8 doesn't work without internet

Hubitat is a local control home automation hub. I shouldn't need the internet or the cloud to control my zigbee devices. However, when I unplug the internet going to my router I have lost control of my zigbee devices using zigbee switches or my mobile app. What I desire is a way to control lights, sensors and switches when the internet is unavailable from the outside.

Unless I misunderstand you, you're trying to use the Mobile App on your phone to control your Zigbee devices on your home network connected Hubitat hub when you've disconnected your router from the internet.

The Mobile app itself uses the internet connection to authenticate, and remotely connect to your hub....over the internet.

To use your phone to control your devices without internet, make sure your phone is connected to your WiFi network, and point your Web Browser to your local hub IP address...probably 192.168.0.xxx.

Can you clarify what you mean by controlling zigbee devices with zigbee switches? Which devices and switches exactly?

The hub doesn’t need an active internet connection for a zigbee motion sensor to trigger a zigbee light switch, for example. Or for one zigbee switch turning on to trigger a zigbee bulb turning on, as another example. Assuming these automations have already been setup on one’s hub.

@scottgu3 has explained why you are running into issues with the mobile app. The hub admin interface and dashboards remain accessible in a web browser on the Local Area Network, but that’s not how the mobile app functions by default.

You understand correct. But, I am using the HD+ app on my phone. It has three modes; local, cloud and auto. the auto is apparently not working. The local mode works but not for all zigbee devices.

Why don't you test those zigbee switches with a browser pointing to your hub IP. If you can control them then at least we know the problem is HD+ app.

Mark, my zigbee network consists of: four Sengled Element Classic bulbs, two Sonoff Zigbee Button Controllers, Sonoff ZB MiniL2, and two Sonoff S31 Lite outlets. My mobile app is HD+. The app has three modes; local, cloud, and auto. When I did my test the app was in auto mode. I did my test again this morning with the app forced into local mode and that test was successful.

This morning I looked in the hub's device list and found three bulbs I thought I had changed but were still Kasa. So in the end the problem was more me than it was the hub.

Glad you got it figured out. Any time you want to verify how things work like that, simply pull the wan connection on your router then using a PC go to the IP address of your hub. Or even deeper, disconnect the network line from the hub itself and then watch your automations continue working. (Note: Any automations using cloud based iot devices won't work correctly if disconnected from the internet)
