I know that there is a polling option within the driver but, when the option was first implemented, it did not seem to be effective in my environment. I had already instituted a polling (keep alive) mechanism and still use it to this day. Below is the RM rule that runs at the top of every hour to keep my Google Assistants alive. I have often wondered if it was still necessary but, since the overhead is small, and everything is working, I've left it running. Maybe it will help you.
