Christmas Tree Question

Our artificial christmas tree is quite old and needs replacing this year. I really enjoyed having this christmas tree plugged into a smart plug so that it would turn on and off at certain times, as well as when we left the house.

A lot of the new christmas trees come with remotes to cycle through the light bulbs being white, color, or different effects. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these types of trees and can answer the following. If I put this type of tree on a smart plug, when the power was killed and then restored, would the tree lights come back on to the last mode they were on? Or would they even come on at all - once power is cut and then restored, does the remote typically need to be used to cycle through modes to get the lights back on?

I imagine the way trees work could be different but if enough people chime in I might get a sense for whether putting one of these types of trees on a smart plug will work or not.

Mine does, that is when I turn the smart outlet on, the tree resumes whatever pattern had been selected prior the switching the power off.

Mine does too. Had it on a SmartPlug last year.

But there's a simple test.. when you're in the store choosing.. see if you can reach the plug and unplug it... when you put it back, it should come on where it was... if not, reject that tree

I'd be astounded if there were any that didn't.. it can't come as a surprise to Christmas tree manufacturers that people put them on Timers.

These timers.. for $4.97

Not the $200 timers you and I use

Awesome, thanks guys! At your suggestion, I swung over to the store and tested out pulling the plug and, you're right, it did resume where it left off! I have a zigbee smart outlet in the living room that needs to be there as a repeater for the wink hampton bay fan in our living room so that's the one the christmas tree gets plugged into. It's a touch better than the timer as the tree turns off when the house is in away mode. Although, with LED bulbs, the tree probably draws next to no energy anyways...

Thought I would share a fun update. We have a led garland above our fireplace but it's battery operated and needs to be turned on and off manually.

The Xmas tree is on a smart plug so it comes on in the morning, goes off when we leave the house, comes in when we're back home and then off at bedtime. I really wanted the garland to operate the same way so found and old 4.5v power adapter from an old beard trimmer and soldered it into the garland just past the switch. It's now on a smart switch and coming on and off with the Xmas tree. So nice!
