I orderd an April BLE gateway and some tags so we'll see how deep the water gets.
I think it's pretty straight forward as there are drivers here with successful topics.

That never came up while I was searcing the HE forums.
I went with one of the 2 that had success.
This only started when I move to ZB channel 11 my SmartThings Arrival sensors stopped working. They work on every other channel above that but I was having too much interfence up there.

I use Chipolo on my keychain, backpack, and toolbox for presence detection, but I am tied to Home Assistant for that task as I have multiple BLE proxies set up for beacon detection using ESPHome. So yes, generally speaking, Chipolo beacons I would assume should work fine here too.
