New to Hubitat environment. Have 25 A19 60 watt bulb and 14 retrofit led can lights across 10 rooms. I want to do color leds as plan on doing some color automations that that need that function. Location WS state us , So looking for a solid ZigBee (to many devices for my wifi) choices that wont cost an arm and a leg. Any help would be appreciated .
I've had good luck with Sengled RGB A19 and BR30 RGB smart bulbs. They are not repeaters, which many think is a good idea for devices that might lose power when a wall switch is toggled off. Cutting power to repeaters can mess up the Zigbee mesh, but that isn't an issue with these bulbs. Currently on sale $63.99 for a pack of 4 A19s on Sengled's website.
Thanks, found them on Amazon for 39 for 2 but decided to go with that instead since I can return them easily if they don't work
i prefer genuine hue bulbs and leave them on my hue hub.. i had problems with bulbs joined direct to hubitat (probably due to the repeating issue above)
did you have to use there app or something I got it to add to the hub but it wont show commands or show up in the device pull down in in the room lighting app, in logs its able to get the device info. not sure what i messed up
"Cheapest" often == Doesn't work well/long
You may not need to buy the most expensive thing--but there are a bunch of things out there that don't work well (or don't last long).
I've had generally good luck with Hue (but, expensive) and I got a Govee RGBW indoor lightstrip that seems to work (I use the Community Driver).
I tried the IKEA bulbs--and they were a disaster (they lost their mind during a power outage or something, [several of them dropped from the hub & were turned full-on while I was gone] so they went back; good price, but not functional)
yes that is very true but i think in this instance its more of me not knowing what i am doing in this environment, i probably missed a step.
I have been using the plain Sengled A19's for 6 years and never had one burn out. Great bulb.
You could also look at Third Reality Zigbee bulbs. IIRC they are supported on Hubitat, and Third reality products are used by a good number of folks here who seem to like them.
My over all goal is to get things off my wifi router(xfinity) as it just not handling the number of devices well and keeps dropping commands, like my Govee Lights out side, the should turn on and off but randomly will not , as well as my internal Feit Bulbs will randomly just stop working. had a nice Orbi mesh network but it stop working, (think xfinity nerfed it) decided I wanted to try to do this so its not internet dependent as well, so killing multiple birds with as few changes as possible. wish Hubitate supported the Feit bulbs but they are wifi and I want to get away from that
ordered some , the get here later this week hoping they work better then the Sengled's
I'm surprised you're having issues with the Sengled bulbs. Can you post screenshots of the device page?
I had nothing but Sengled bulbs at one point, but then a couple years ago starting having issues w/them, lose control, have to re-pair, and then lose control again. Same problems on C7 and C8. There were a number of threads going on at one point about some people having similar issues, def a YMMV situation as others (like you) were fine. I never figured out what was going on, so after a while I switched over to Hue.
I've got 8 or 10 Sengleds in a box, mixed white and RGBW all reset looking for a new home.
My supposition is that the Singled radios intermittently fail with age. Mine were great for a few years and then random ones would require a power cycle to reconnect. Like you I bit the bullet and paid the Hue tax over a year ago and not a single hiccup since.
Yeah, could be something like that, but I know we have peeps here w/Sengled that have been around and worked well for them, so there may be multiple factors depending on bulb models and (of course) the never-ending YMMV from widely varying home environments, meshs, etc. Hue does "just work" which is very important here in the land of low WAF for HA in general.
