Hi all
Can anyone recommend a cheap wall switch (which doesn't require a neutral wire) that works with HE? I don't care what it looks like. I only need it for my loft and the only functionality I need is for HE to know if it's off or on (for when I forget to turn it off).
I was going to use a smart bulb for that but I see on my Hue app that sometimes some bulbs are marked as on even though the switch is off and they don't have power, so don't want to have to go into the roof every time to check if that is the case.
Thanks
Alan
These work, I use them in the garage.
Sorry, should have mentioned that I'm in the UK, which limits choice a bit
Thanks for the reply though .
I’ve read in other threads that sengled bulbs don’t have this problem. When the power is cut to the bulb they send a “last gasp” message to the hub that they are turning off (I can’t take credit for that term, I believe it was @ogiewon). Most smart bulbs don’t do that, so the hub assumes they are still on.
Sadly, AFAIK, Sengleds aren't available across the pond. By maybe they have an equivalent bulb.
May I suggest a smart bulb and hardwire it to always be on behind the wall switch, then replace the wall switch with a button or scene controller to turn it on and off. Or a motion sensor to turn it on whenever you go to the loft. Or a door/window contact on the loft hatch.
There are 3 lights which would start to add up. I was hoping I could get a switch for cheaper.
The no neutral makes it tricky. I used to put Aeotec Nano dimmers in where there was no neutral, but that is expensive and clearly overkill for your application. These days smart bulbs are cheap enough and work great. A 3-pack of sengled A19, $26 on amazon.
I'll weigh up the costs of bulbs vs a xiaomi switch (one of the cheaper I know about thst work with HE) this black Friday.
