Hi All,
I'm looking for some advice on the most graceful and painless way to handle the following scenario:
- Just installed a new C-7 Hub and restored the database from my C-4 to it successfully.
- My existing ZigBee Centralite Pearl Thermostat is about dead and I cannot access the configuration screens on it via the 'Swipe Down' method. That said, I cannot join it to the new C-7. I do have a new identical model Centralite Pearl Thermostat at the ready to install though.
- The existing Thermostat has A TON of rules attached to it that I am sooooo not in the mood to have to re-do for the new device.
***Question of the Day - After I pair the new Centralite to the C-7, is there a method (similar to the manual Z-Wave migration process perhaps) that I can follow to get the new Centralite to impersonate the Old one via the DNI and/or the ZigbeeID?
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
John
Don't delete the old one (yet). Pair the new one, giving it a name different from the old one. Go through the rules and in the device selection, wherever it specifies the old one, unselect it and select the new one instead. Save the rules and you should be good to go. You should not have to re-do any of the rules, just change the thermostat.
After you have completed changing the rules to use the new thermostat, double-check the "In use by" list at the bottom of the old thermostat's device page to make sure you did not miss any rules. If it is empty, then you can safely remove the old thermostat. If desired, you can then change the name of the new thermostat, but that is optional.

Thanks @StephenH ...That'll definitely be a good way to handle this!
When the next version of the hub firmware is out of beta, there will be a way to do this with a built-in “replace” function. The new device is given the old device’s DNI, so all automations will remain intact without having to swap the device in manually as @StephenH explained. For a device that was referenced in many rules, it can be a real time saver.
You could consider joining the beta to try it out now.
