Centralite 4200-C Zigbee Outlets - Randomly Stop Working

Sure, but the engineering logs wouldn't reveal any more details than you already know, and that is the radio went down. The engineering logs are good for situations like when users are unable to pair devices or all devices stopped working, to confirm if the radio is down or not, which can be a sign of a hardware malfunction.

I’ve tried about 3 or 4 different channels and I’ve tweaked my WiFi mesh about as much as I know how. The devices work great for a while and then just suddenly stop (and then will come back). No rhyme or reason to which ones, how long, etc. I don’t know what else to try.

I'm at my wit's end on this. I have tried changing the Zigbee channel, the Wi-Fi channel, Zigbee power level (8 then 12 then 16), etc. and nothing I do works consistently. Just when I think it's working well, something stops responding. 99 times out of 100, if I turn debugging on for the device and save, the device starts working again.

This morning I finally had one that I was able to capture debug info.

I don't know what else to do. When I scan for Zigbee channels, the ones that I've used are far enough away from my Wi-Fi channel or in one of the non-overlap and far enough away from other channels (here's my current scan).

My C-8 is currently on Zigbee channel 15 and maximum power level. I've tried power level 8, 12, and 16 on this channel.

Wi-Fi is currently on Channel 11 (least congested in my neighborhood). I have tried using Channel 1 as well (have not tried 6 but since it's right in the center, I was avoiding that one).

I have no issues at all with the C-7 (it's on Zigbee channel 16). Those devices are up and running without issues. ST must be using 19 (I have a hub keeping two smart bulbs connected to a network - that's all it does - I don't even control them, they've been reduced to "dumb" bulbs for the most part after I learned of the routing issues they have).

What am I doing wrong? This is driving me insane.

OK I've gone through just about every Zigbee power setting and channel on the hub and this is still happening. I keep going back to the fact that a Centralite Keypad mere feet from the hub (with no obstructions) keeps going offline. That's how I know trouble has started.

I also did some searching a few days ago (I was researching the "Rebuild" option under Zigbee, which I have yet to try) when I found someone else having a similar issue and he mentioned his Zigbee radio kept going offline and coming back. Well guess what? So is mine:

@bobbyD - what do I need to do now?

Are these 4200-Cs the bulk of your mains-powered zigbee devices on the C8?

If they're the backbone for your C8 zigbee mesh, the fact that they're older ZHA1.2 devices might be the problem...

When I moved from C7 -> C8 long ago, my rock-solid C7 zigbee mesh became a hot mess on the C8. For me (and this is just my own experience), one of the things that really helped a lot was removing the last couple of my mains-powerd ZHA1.2 devices in favor of using only newer ZB3.0 mains-powered devices.

I know that's not welcome news to hear, but I'm convinced the new zigbee chip/radio on the C8/8Pro has significant issues with ZHA1.2 devices being either the bulk of the repeaters or the primary repeaters in the mesh. But again, that's just my experience and opinion.

Yes, unfortunately so. And I've already gone through the pain of replacing every plug in the house with these (I had Securifi Peanut Plugs all through the house until it was pointed out that too many of those cause havoc on the mesh as well).

But I will say that I have run these for a good long time on the C8 and trouble only just started not that long ago (shortly before this post).

The problem is getting worse. I just came home from being away and mode manager set the mode to Evening (as it should). I have several lights that come on when Evening is set. None of them came on, but they were commanded to. I set to Day and back to Evening and they all did. The Centralite keypad I mentioned previously is off the network again.

@support_team - what do I need to do here?

Start with the latest platform release 2.4.1.151

Done as soon as I posted this. I enabled “Command Retry” for most of my Zigbee devices. Not sure if that’s masking the problem but I guess if it works, I won’t argue with the result.

Some improvement? But still have issues. Last night I had a light turn on but Hubitat thought it was still off, so when it went to turn off, it obviously didn't. In the events I can see two "command on" lines sent and it did turn on so that part was right.

And on further inspection, the Zigbee radio has been offline several times again.

OK I lied, @mike.maxwell. Things are still pretty bad. Zigbee radio has been offline many times today and half my stuff isn't working now.

I did the update to 2.4.1.154 last night. I'm going to shut it down completely now, leave it off for 20 minutes, and bring it back up and see where I get. Usually that buys me a day or two.

We'll Zigbee itself doesn't go off line by itself
So until we figure out what load(s) are causing Zigbee to puke the situation isn't going to improve

OK. How do we go about doing that?

Update: Full shutdown helped nothing. Commands are not getting to many devices and the ones that do, replies aren’t getting back to the hub. I can control very little at this moment so any insight into what to do next is appreciated.

Would a migrated Iris V1 Temperature/Contact sensor be a potential problem? I moved it to a C7 so it’s off of the C8 network now. I updated to 2.4.1.155 last night and some things got better. The devices that were unresponsive I powered off and back on and fingers crossed, things are working for now. We’ll see how the next few days go. The last 2 have been awful.

@mike.maxwell - Things have improved, not sure if it's due to removing that Iris V1 sensor or not, but I haven't had any more unresponsive issues in over a week. Will continue to monitor.

However, the radio continues to go offline and come back. What do we need to do to troubleshoot that?

Still happening.

@support_team - what do I need to do now to troubleshoot? Command retry has helped but I can tell that commands aren't always getting through and the keypad that is mere feet from the hub keeps getting booted off.

This is how far the keypad is from the hub, for reference:

Is there anyone that can help me with this? Please?

they go bad. recommend replacing.. i had about 6 at one tme.. now down to 2.

It doesn’t seem like a bad plug, considering they do start working again. Add to that the keypad that keeps going offline and the Zigbee radio issues, and it seems to me the issue is broader.

Am I wrong?
