CentraLite 3328-G Settings

Hello all.
Converted from Vera to Hubitat like many others. (Love the versatility & functionality)
I primarily use HOME (Retired Apple Engineer) with Synology NAS using Homebridge to capture the other devices for use in HOME.
QUESTION: My CentraLite 3328-G appears to trigger way too often for Motion.
Is there a driver or adjustment I can make to turn down the sensitivity?
Otherwise I have been very pleased with the response time and Temperature readings it sends to HE.
Thanks in Advance.
Randy

I'm not aware of any sensitivity configuration that this device can use.

If you are experiencing "phantom" motion events, two things come to mind:

  • interference from things a PIR sensor might mistake for motion/people, like sunlight or heat sources; or
  • a low battery (I've seen other sensors from the same OEM start sending spurious "motion active" even as the battery gets low enough to need replacement); note that these devices report a "battery" attribute with the level, but such reporting is notorously unreliable.

You might also try resetting and re-pairing the device, no need to remove it from the hub first, to see if that helps.

I've also discovered that certain security cameras with IR lighting can set off motion sensors, but I tend to agree with your low battery suggestion. When I converted to HE, the extra power needed during re-pairing was enough to push the sensor's battery into weak territory

Thanks everyone.
Ya I suspected this might be the case. Some of my ZWave Motion sensors have better control for masking IR signatures and back ground noise. (These were cheap, I have 3 of them and they do work well except this Front Door sensor triggers too often)
The other two units are in covered areas and point in dead zones so when someone walks by it only triggers once.
This one points outward from the front door to the driveway and it does get a lot of activities like wind blowing trees, sunlight changes etc. Batteries are all past 70%. (They Last about 4 months+) HE does a much better job with communication, I Never could get these Zigbees to work very well with Vera, They all drop off randomly with Vera. I almost trashed them but decided to give them a try with HE.
These have been online for months with no issues other than the 1 second interval active/inactive trigger.
If I could put a delay between triggers that would probably help.

In this scenario, I use a Philips Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor directly paired to my HE C-8 Pro. I am actually amazed at how reliable it has been. I have yet to change its batteries (installed back in June, 2022!) and it does an amazing job of only triggering for large animals (no squirrels or cats trigger it) and cars in the driveway. YMMV, of course.

Thanks ogiewon,

Viewed on amazon, reasonably priced at $49.
The description states it needs to be paired with a Hue bridge but you mentioned HE C-8 which is what I have. Others have connected it to HE C-7s so I would think it should be compatible.

Hue motion sensors can pair directly to any generation of Hubitat hub, so yes you should be fine.
