I know it’s been asked before but I’m wondering if anyone has any newer recommendations for ceiling fan relays.
Currently I have a ceiling fan and light that is hardwired. Wife is making me move it to another part of the house that doesn’t have the third wire.
So I’m thinking I can get a smart ceiling fan relay and put it in the fan canopy but was wondering if you had any recommendations.
I can connect to the fan function using a Lutron pico.
The Inovelli Fan/light switch has been working well for me in the same situation and drops right into HE.
I had issues with Inovelli and some lithonia led panels that left a sour taste in my
Mouth. However I’d still need a relay to “talk” to any smart switch. I’m also a big fan of the Lutron Pico/Caseta integrations and would rather go that route. I can pick up a Pico for like $12.
Well i would give the Inovelli a second thumbs up. I just got one a while ago and so far it has been great. It is nice having full controls and it integrates pretty well. You can also fully control the 2 led's on the device independent of the fan or light for various notifications.
That said if you already have a bias towards Lutron Caseta then that is probably as good as any other possible option out there.
Again, the third wire doesn’t exist in the new location for a fan and I’m not about to run it through cathedral ceilings. My question wasn’t about fan switch recommendations but remote relays that can be buried in the fan canopy and controlled by a remote.
No real bias for or against either one but the Lutron Picos are AWESOME remote controls as many will testify here. And plus once you’ve already had the Lutron ecosystem setup (which I’ve had for over 7 years now), its easier to stick with known variables.
Last but not least, that switch you recommend is $70 whereas I already have a bunch of Picos lying around that can be put to use in multiple locations without running even more wire.
The Inovelli switch is not just a 2 button relay switch to control two circuts so no third wire required.
It is a single switch device that uses RF to talk to a included canopy fan module. That included canopy module uses only two source wires. The canopy module then controls the fan and light individually based on the switch.
The pico's as i understand it are simply remotes. You could still use them with the inovelli switch in that use case through HE.
Edit: The only canopy drop in replacements that i am aware of are the Inovelli red fan switch and the King Of Fans Zigbee device. I have both but the Inovelli device is the only one currently being sold. It is zwave so make sure where you are putting it has decent zwave coverage. It is zwave 700 so should be better tlrange then some of the older devices.

Second to @mavrrick58 , I mentioned the inovelli package since it fits into your exact scenario; to provide full fan speed and light dimming control without the need to run any additional wires which integrates nicely into HE. If the Pico system (of which I am admittedly not an expert) has that solution too and you're more comfortable with them then great.
In my case it really helped out. The light switch I used was connected to a switched receptacle and the fan was hardwired and using the pull cords. I converted the receptacle to always on, powered the inovelli switch portion and installed the canopy module and voila; fully controllable fan and light locally and thru HE. All this without having any wires between the fan and the switch

Ah okay I thought it was just a switch and didn’t realize it had a relay/remote receiver included with it as well. I;ll have to look into this further and thank you for the recommendation.
Unfortunately it looks like they’re all sold out/unavailable on their site as well as Amazon. I saw a few other items which “might” work that are intriguing. Here’s one of them except it’s WiFi and I don’t know if it’ll directly interface with HE or if anyone came up with a driver. If not, I could probably use my Bond Hub to make a handshake:
Yea. I ended up getting it right from the Inovelli website. Their direct price us also a little bit better then amazon.
They don’t have them in stock there either so I need to find another solution. But thanks again for the suggestions. I feel stupid for just thinking it was only a smart switch without a receiver.
I would just suggest checking periodically. Their stuff comes in and goes out on a fairly frequent basis.
No worries. It is an easy mistake when so many others dont come with the canopy module.
