PS, we have a tradition in Australia of having bbq’s at the polling stations, and we nicknamed a sausage in bread “a democracy sausage”. There’s even a website to track where you can buy one on election day.

Too true, but I’ll admit I very much enjoy rewarding myself with a nice snag and onions after being subjected to 5 weeks of an election campaign.
TBH, I don’t know how our American friends cope with 12 month long election campaigns!

The irony is that we still fail to vet political candidates, despite multi-year campaigns that cost in the billions. It either reflects voter apathy, or poor education in civics, or that we are biped lemmings.

Yeah I did consider writing 2 years because of your mid terms…
We managed to avoid that thankfully, by having both houses up for election every 3 years at the same time. Senate terms are 6 years, and half of them go up for reelection at every election.
TBH I think 4 year fixed terms would be better, but no one will agree to change it.
