Cartoons (& Memes & Weird Funny Stuff) of Hubitat (Part Uno)

Yes, but you have to admit that when you are raised near a drag strip and they do Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, that gets the blood pumping just thinking about those large blocks just driving their cars down the strip.

I went through a serious dragster moment when I was a kid, and built models and drew pictures of them obsessively for a while. One of my strongest (and saddest) memories was when my dad walked into my bedroom and accidently stepped on and crushed one of my models that was on the floor...came near to tears, but he made up by buying me three replacement models, so I survived.

Oh man that had to be heartbreaking. We used to build models of the funny cars. There were two auto shows in Detroit, one for the big companies and the other for the kit builders called Autorama. Loved going to there. One of my friend's fathers, when I was in public school, was an engineer at GM and he drove a fully kitted Camaro to school. Only when the weather permitted it because he used to show the car at Autorama and other shows.

Jealous...never got to go to a car show until I was all growed up...my dad was a bit of an odd-car guy (had a Kharmann Ghia, an old 40's Ford that was painted bright bronze that my mom christened the Tea Kettle, and a few big block cars that I was too young to remember well now) but unfortunately never took me to a car show.

I had a teacher in high school who had been in a rock and roll band in the sixties that had very small moment and toured a little including going to Japan, and he drove an absolutely beautiful split-window Corvette in gold. Man did we drool over his car...

Kind of on the other end, a father of a childhood friend had a Datsun 240z when they first came out, in bright orange. Looked like a Mattel matchbox car in real life, so cool.

My Dad's best friend had one also (orange of course) but sold it when he became a family man. Twenty years later, my dad tracked down exact same car for him as a birthday gift. I was there for that; quite emotional.

Unfortunately, less than a year later, they were on a highway on-ramp that uses stoplights and a car behind them didn't see the light and rear-ended the $#!T out of them. Fortunately only minor injuries but the car was totaled.

About 10 years ago, we went to drag races in Phoenix and got to sit in bleachers adjacent to start line. We were maybe 40ft from the cars. HOLY HELL!!!!!!!

That's just amazing, very cool. So sad it was totaled, but at least he had it again for a little while.

What, sorry, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

I am hoping he does similar for me and my 1980 silver RX-7 that was my first car. :grinning: Unfortunately, then I would have to track down his 1973 Jaguar E-type that he sold right before I was old enough to drive it.

The hearing protection helped but what was probably more amazing was the vibrations I felt. I can't imagine being one of the car guys down on the asphalt right at the start line.

I had a 1981 Rx-7 and a 1985 Rx-7 GSL-SE. Both were great fun!
I currently own a 2004 Rx-8 that my son now drives. That one will be traded in soon as he needs modern, reliable transportation. Too much time spent keeping a 20 year old rotary engine running smoothly! But what a fun car to drive!

Because you don’t get it? It’s taking the pi$$ out of our Aussie PM and the AUKUS deal.

I do love v8’s, but I’m also very fond of my tiny 1.0ltr, 3 cylinder, turbo charged go kart (Kia Rio GT).

A friend of mine gave me one of the best engine mantras...

There's no replacement for displacement.

Actually I've found that even donating one can get you in trouble. But I think my main issue was that using a ziploc bag instead of a cooler didn't look as professional.

The onions and fava beans probably didn't help either.

Even with the explanation, I don't find it particularly funny.

Fair enough, I guess it’s funnier from an Aussie point of view, as AUKUS a bit of a hot topic here.

Is it too early for drunken elf jokes?
