I am hoping someone can assist me with figuring out what I am doing wrong with the motion lighting app? I have set it up through numerous examples on the forum but it just doesn't work. It worked once when I set it all up, but then I touched the switch physically or used voice assistant (Google or Alexa) and now it now longer works.
Seems straight forward but isn't working correctly. This is using motions sensors from my DSC Alarm system, this also isn't acting quite right. HSM will go into away or sleep mode and it is a 50/50 chance whether it will actually arm the alarm or not.
Go in and disable override (in options for on). Then see if it works properly. Also, set a time for how long after motion stops (in options for off). Turn off the lights with Alexa, that should clear the override.
I will definitely give it a try now, thank you for the quick support. Question though, I enabled the override as I would like to keep the light on if I manually dim the light so that it disables the motion temporarily, how would I go about resuming the override though?
I just had you turn it off so you could figure things out. Override gets kicked on whenever you touch the thing with Alexa or GH. Override ends when the light is turned off.
Looks like it is working as designed now. When I first setup Motion Lighting I didn't use the Google Home/Alexa name variable and instead was just controlling the lights with the physical switch or voice assistant to the physical switch which must have messed up the logic.
Is it safe to assume that now that things are reset I should re-enable the override option?
Also I'm looking to setup motion lighting for our bathroom light, but it also has a contact sensor that I would like to use to keep the light on if the door is closed. Only way with motion lighting that I can see to do that would be to combine it with RM where I set a trigger (Contact Sensor) turns on a virtual switch which then I could use in Motion Lighting as the override?
5 Days later after re-enabling the override option last night, my motion lighting in my dining room has stopped responding to motion just like before. I am in the process of updating the hub to the latest version to see if it helps with some of these weird issues. I didn't see anything major in the logs as to why it would continue to have these issues and I would really like to be able to use the override feature with Alexa/GH.
Sounds like you've got this mostly under control. You mentioned looking at forum posts, but didn't mention you found the doc for Motion Lighting, so I just wanted to point you to it and the other docs.
You can also jump right to the doc for an app by clicking or tapping on the ? in the top right of the app.
So I have read the manual about 1/2 dozen times even before posting this thread. For some reason when I have the override option turned on(default) my motion sensor will not turn the lights on. It will work for about a single mode after being created and that's it.
Excerpt from the manual:
Override for level only (default is automation suspend)
If this option is enabled, motion active events will not change your manual dimmer level settings, but when no motion is detected, the lights will still turn off when your specified time has elapsed.
Hopefully someone can chime in as to what's wrong as I would like the ability to use the override. In example when I'm eating dinner I would prefer to be able to use the switch or voice AI to override the lights without them going off every 5 minutes.
