ahhh this is way way way too STUPID hubitat does not let me change its IP and subnet to a different subnet. WHY ?????
this device is really not for base beginners, if someone don't know what he is doing, warn with a message but ALLOW !!!!
How / where are you trying to set the IP of your HE hub? Ideally I would try to set it via your router.... setting it using the settings on the HE hub itself, as I understand it, is only a last resort..... (not a bad resort.... I hear they have a good drinks package.... )
Designed to run via DHCP and with beginner protection in mind so ....
That being said, if you plug the hub into the new subnet, and hit the network reset button on the bottom of the hub it should pick up an address from the new subnet, which you can then use to do your DHCP reservation.
Can you be more specific about how your network topology is setup and what youβre trying to change?
I agree with others that most users are probably better off just leaving their hub to use DHCP.
But it is possible to configure other IP address and subnet options.
If you want to force something into the static IP settings there is a way, see this post and the two below it:
Just be ready with a paperclip to do a network reset on the hub if you mess it up and it wont reconnect.
Plus anytime the router or hub restarts,.,,,?
point is that I'm segmenting my home network and about to put hubitat to a separate vlan simply upating the IP manually (was the intent) , then put the router's interface to the specific vlan and case closed. now have to set to dhcp, etc etc... its all fine just... annoying. Seems btw that I can't connect to the box when it gets DHCP IP in a tagged vlan. not sure why but probably something on my side. cool Friday activity.
Seems like something worth managing on the router... for me.... imo....though I don't have the slightly more complex setup you do.....
mikrotik overall
By that you mean you can't set the IP address of your HE hub on the router?
just mean mikrotik makes great hw for home networking. not really related.
Then I'd take advantage and set the HE hub IP there, rather than on the HE hub.... Along with any other automation hubs....
easy way is to DHCP and then "make static" and it will assign the MAC to the IP and dhcp works as bootp giving out the same IP to the box all the time.
its just my paranoia, core network services should have their static IP and full stop. I'm a dinosaur, it is what it is. still using vi
any other questions ?
No... no other questions.... no communication..... no further discussion....
muhaha
