Hi folks,
I've been trying to follow the Adding Matter Devices to Hubitat guide to add a Matter over Wifi device, but with no success. In the mobile app when I click Add Matter Devices, I get an info popup about Wifi and Putting the device into pairing mode, but after clicking on Continue it goes right back to the Add Device screen. No option to scan the QR code or anything like that. I'm on Hub platform version 2.4.3.137, mobile app version 2.1.3.42(372) on Android 12. The app has all permissions.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Have you commissioned the device with another Matter controller?
Welcome to the Hubitat Community!
What model Hubitat hub are you using? Also, I would suggest updating it to the latest platform version, as I know there was an issue with Z-Wave Smart Start that caused the app to crash. This was fixed in the latest Hub platform version released within the last 24 hours. Probably totally unreleated, but it won't hurt to be running the latest version.
Also, what is your network topology? Do you have any VLANs? What specific Matter over WiFi device are you trying to add? Does it have a vendor application that you can use on your phone to make sure it is running its latest firmware?
No, because the page says:
However, Matter over Wi-Fi and similar devices can be commissioned and paired directly with the Hubitat Elevation mobile app (mobile app version 2.1.0 and hub platform 2.4.1 and newer only) if you prefer.
To add a Matter device using the mobile app, select the Devices (or light bulb icon) tab. Then, select Add Matter Device and select Continue after reading the advice and instructions. Scan the Matter setup code when prompted, and follow the instructions.
If I bought another hub then I wouldn't need Hubitat.
Thank you.
The device is MiBoxer ML5 LED controller. I'm running Hubitat Elevation C8 Pro. I've just updated the firmware, no difference.
No VLANs, Hubitat is connected via ethernet. I'm trying to avoid using and registering all the vendor applications, but I'll check.
the page also says:
Adding Matter Devices to Hubitat
For any Matter device, we suggest the device first be commissioned with another Matter controller (Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, or similar). This controller can then put the device in "pairing mode" to use with another system, such as Hubitat.
Yeah, I thought since it said It's a suggestion that it's not a hard requirement. And there is a link button on the device to put it into pairing mode.
Anyway, I caved and linked it to the manufacturer's app. After adding it there, I attempted to share the device with Hubitat, which also failed saying
Pairing failed @ FindOperational with code 50 (Timeout)
Looks like youโre having trouble pairing your device. Please check that the device is in pairing mode and is on the same LAN as the hub.
So I guess there's some networking issue with Hubitat seeing devices on wifi.
Still think there is a bug in the mobile app though, because now if I try to add a matter device it opens the camera to read the QR code, which it didn't do before.
Ok, managed to get it connected through the native app and then sharing it to Hubitat. I was missing Hubitat WiFi configuration to finish sharing. Thank you for your help ![]()
Glad to hear you got it working!
Can you explain what you mean? You don't need to connect Hubitat to Wi-Fi to use Matter over Wi-Fi devices. Do you also have your hub wired? Using both at the same time is (usually not problematic but) unsupported. I'd be curious about this if that helped:
I got that impression from the documentation as well, but before the device wouldn't transfer to Hubitat, and after configuring Hubitat wifi connection it did.
And I mean going to Settings > Network Settings > Wifi and configuring a connection.
Yes, I have my hub wired, LAN cable from Hubitat to the wifi router directly. No VLANs, no segmentation as far as I can tell.
