Cannot Publish Tile Builder Tile To EZ Dashboard

Good morning all,

Yesterday I installed Tile Builder after reading about it on the forum and licensed it this morning. While waiting on the license I played with the app and re-created my 1s tile this morning again under the licensed product with the features I wanted to use.

I believe I have completed all the app steps necessary to create my 1st tile; however, I do not see the output of the app. I am thinking that should be a device in the dashboard Add / Remove device list that I can add to the EZ Dashboard list. Maybe this is my mistake? I must be either missing the concept or a step somewhere? I do see an error (in the log below) that may be an issue.

I am providing multiple screenshots that may rule out some questions about the app's installation while helping someone provide me guidance. Hopefully Gary may also pick up on this thread as well and provide some insight.

I will be leaving in about 1.5 hours and will have very limited use of my phone until late this evening. I may not be able to respond back until then.

As always, any help is always very much appreciated.

  • Don. It's gonna be a great day!

I'm just offering an idea - is the tile added to your dashboard?

Good evening jshimota,

Thanks for responding! I think that is the issue. The only device I see in the Dashboard list of eligible devices that I can add (left column) is the Tile Builder Storage Device 1 (default name for the app database). I did not add that by the way.

I was expecting to see an item in that same dashboard list the tile I built (tile 1) named Tile Builder - PCM Status Summary but it is just not there. I don't see anything to add but the app database.

Thanks,

  • Don

I don't use any HE Dashboards - but on my favorite dashboard HD+ - you add Tile Builder storage, then, in the dashboard you can choose the tile you want. Here is a random snip I grabbed to show you:

The tile interface in my HD+ dashboard (I use a 29" portrait display with an Android Emulator running to use HD+ btw)

So, in my case I just copy one tile to another and change the 'tile#' field to choose what to display. Give that a try?
Here's a snip of my Maker API I use for my HD+ - (the same idea as adding tiles to a dashboard) I'd like to add that HD+ (by @jpage4500) and TileBuilder and the subtools by @garyjmilne are my 2 hands down most valuable apps/tools - and there is support in HD+ specific to TileBuilder - I'm super pleased!

Good morning jshimota!

Thank you once again for your time and helping me. Really appreciated.

Per your suggestion I added the Tile Builder Storage Device Driver back to the dashboard. I thought after making other changes it may make a difference. Unfortunately, no luck. There is no ability to select anything but "Other" for the Tile Type. I just get the sad icon LOL.

I thought I would try and create a virtual device using the Tile Builder Storage Device Driver as the basis for the device.

I really thought I was on to something. The prompts seemed as though it was expecting just a few data points from the previous setup of a tile and virtual devices are a somewhat common way to add tiles to dashboards. Once again when the virtual device was added...same old sad icon...ugh :frowning:

The URL from the entry placed in the file manger from the tile creation does resolve. So not sure what part I am missing to get it on the EZ Dashboard. Seems like I am close. I just can't get it across the finish line :slight_smi

Lastly, I don't believe setting up a virtual device just using the URL as I have done here will work since it looks like it will not pick up column formatting and maybe other "stuff" being managed by Tile Builder.

I will keep plugging away. I do very much appreciate your time!!

Wow - I had never opened EZ dashboard - and you're right - its ... um. beyond me. I think the EZ dashboard is supposed to be really simple.

I did pop the old dashboard on for a minute - and it was simple there.
Make a regular dashboard (legacy it seems to be called now) and add the tile builder storage.
then open that dashboard and take the defaults to get started.
Here is my tester - I have 3 tilebuilder storages 1,2 and 3 so...

Next, click the 3 dots in the top right corner of the tile and open it. You'll get a tile config screen similar to this:

Choose 'ATTRIBUTE' in the center drop down, then in options choose the tile # within the storage container that is holding your desired tile:

save and review.
Here's the result from me picking an 'attribute' for each of the first 2:

Wow,

Thank you for verifying. I am going to keep plugging away. I wonder if it is something to do with EZ Dashboard? I will also try creating a different type of tile.

Man I appreciate your troubleshooting so much!!!

You nailed it. Working in Hubitat Legacy Dashboard but not in EZ Dashboard. I am going to see if there is something I am doing wrong in Tile Builder but I will not roll back to Hubitat Legacy dashboard. Does anyone else know if Tile Builder is compatible with EZ Dashboards?

jshimota, you have been a tremendous help. Again can't thank you enough.

Bummer. Using everything local knowing the graphics would not resolve remotely. Thought the the "stuff" it needed would be in file manager and point back to the database but obviously it ain't working.

I am going to bail out and write it off. Maybe some day it will work in EZ Dashboard. Really nice.

Thanks for getting back to me. Appreciate it!

Sorry I’m late to this thread, I’m out of town until the end of March. EZ Dashboard does not support an attribute tile to the best of my knowledge. EZ Dashboard is quite a bit newer but I’m hoping they will add that capability in the near future as it is quite widely used.

Thanks for confirming Gary. Real bummer. Was hoping to get some of those grids up on the dashboard. I don’t know if it not being compatible on EZ Dashboards is in any of the Hubitat Package Manager text and I don’t recall seeing it in the Tile Bilder text manual for charts (read several times) but I may have overlooked it. Only point is If not that might be something to add in next release. Would have save me about 8 hours LOL. I still had fun play with the app and it really is nice for those thinking about using it.

As always, appreciate the help I received from the community. Special thanks to jshimoa for all the time and effort!

Make it a great day
