I'm in the process of child-proofing our home and was wondering if anyone knows of electronic cabinet locks compatible with Hubitat?
I guess I could just go with contact sensors for when the cabinet doors are open, but it would be nice to know the locked status and be able to check / control them from my dashboard.
You could use latching solenoids that would extend a plunger to latch each door. Of course, you would need a button (Pico?) to unlock and lock.
There also appear to be a few cabinet locks on Amazon that lock/unlock by fingerprint recognition or RFID tags, but none that would interface to Hubitat by WiFi, Z-Wave, Zigbee or even Bluetooth.
Honestly after my 1st child, the only cabinets we baby proofed were under the sinks (kitchen and bath) because that's where the chemicals are. Beyond that, get a door knob cover for his/her/it's room and be done with it. Don't over think it. Waste of time and money. It's kinda like that commercial where woman has her first child and the sitter doesn't have a doctorate in early child learning care and she sends them away, on the second child, the neighbor kid with the nose piercing and goth makeup is taking care of the kids while the parents go out. I think a regular cabinet lock on the chemical areas with a contact sensor will do ya... Face it, once their teenagers, you're gonna wonder why you didn't let them get into the chemicals in the first place. Just sayin'
We childproofed everything with the first kid. What a pain those old school latches were. By the 2nd kid we were pros and didn't child proof anything. They both made it to their teenage years. If I have a 3rd kid I'm gonna lock myself up in one of those cabinets.
Thanks all for the suggestions. We're trying not to go mad over it, and I only plan on child-proofing two cabinets (kitchen sink where the cleaning supplies are and the booze cabinet).
Unfortunately my wife suffers from narcolepsy and is prone to being forgetful, so I'd like to come up with something that will act as a reminder if one of those cabinets has been left open or unlocked.
The Yale Smart Lock sounds promising, if expensive. The web page is just coming up blank for me at the moment though for some reason (I've tried a couple of different browsers). I'll take a look at the SmartThings driver.
