C8 Z-Wave Devices Sporadically Not Receiving Commands

I have my ZWave hub on one side of the house under my staircase in a closet that is about 3ft from my two doors that have Schlage ZWave locks on them. My zigbee hub is centrally located as well as my cloud hub.

Sometimes relatively small changes can have an effect w/this stuff...

Mine is centrally located. I actually reserved the location when I was building out the house. (basically laundry room) My hue bridge, hubitat, and Lutron pro bridge all sit on a shelf above the washer and dryer.

It should. 3 feet will be enough at the power this RF band is allowed.

Here’s the diffs.

Before and after. Lutron stayed stayed in the same place between c-7 and c-8, but the antenna for c-8 basically ended up touching Lutron hub (darn near). So now I’ve moved it to the side.

Hard to tell if anything has changed yet. If not, I’ll try moving it a bit further away.

Anecdotally, I'll say that just within the hour I rotated a Zigbee antenna down and it dramatically improved. With the Zigbee antenna pointing UP, like the ZWave antenna, it 100% didn't work. I could not pair a Zigbee device at all, even within a foot. Now... I don't use Zigbee on that Hub. There's been a Hubitat hub in that physical location for years. But that spot never has Zigbee enabled. There's another hub, with Zigbee enabled, about 22" away. Same shelf, one hub on the left "end" and one hub on the right "end".

By sliding the hub forward less than an inch, to allow the Zigbee antenna to dangle over the edge, turned 100% fail to 100% success. Zigbee devices paired from 20ft away, with no repeaters.

z-wave back to non-responsive. so moving lutron hub a bit didn't help. will move it like 10 ft away and see if that helps, and if not, then won't chase moving it slightly anymore... if it does help, will try moving it back closer.

fwiw, posting this because it's similar to @dan4

That top row seems... odd. Right now my system is behaving...

When misbehaving, the hub seems to be getting mesh messages some/most of the time (I get alerts about doors unlocking, etc), but sending commands like "turn on a light" never get acted upon. Looking at the zwave log, I can see the message is sent, and what looks like the "response". Will have to wait for stuff to be misbehaving before I can provide those exact messages. Right now, a successful command looks like

I wonder if the connection to the antenna wasn't quite complete, and moving it down tightened it up to work better?

After several days of troubleshooting, I am no further along. My top line is still red. I moved my Lutron hub. I have moved the C8 to a different room, and re-ran a full repair. No change to the top line. Still red. I do see other changes to the topology map as I adjust my devices, so I know the map is working properly.

I have a crapload of devices, I would hate to hard reset this thing. But I suspect the C5 to C8 upgrade left me in this position.

Help @support_team!

Let's review.. after all the work, what's the status of the devices themselves? Are you able to control them? In other words, let's ignore the Topology map for a minute and see if the devices themselves have gotten better after all the other changes.

I have a hypothesis related to the use of Nodes 2-5... that the chip has moved it's 'base' to another node.

Moving C8 to another room, away from Lutron Hub did improve Z-Wave connectivity to nearby devices, and “weird routing paths” to my devices have been replaced with more logical paths. I would still expect more direct paths but things are working, at least for now. It was a sporadic problem, so previously, in a given week, it might happen on two of seven nights. So I need more time to say it’s solved…but it’s looking good.

Mine's now in a "failed" state. Pushing command to same device, this is what log shows now. Hub has lost routing info for several devices now (the routing info column is blank).

Other coms it seems to be getting from devices are also missing all their "info".
