C8 pro will not connect to Z wave devices

I recently upgraded to C8 hub. Due to the fact the zwave migration wasn’t possible I left the z wave devices on the old hub. However I decided this Christmas to migrate them over. The only problem is I can’t seem to pair a single zwave device with the hub.

Firmware is up to date
Devices are all excluded and/or factory reset
Hub is powered by a power brick
Have swapped the antennas
Have rebooted the hub many times and power cycled the zwave devices (have tried more than 15 devices now from Everspring, Fibaro, and Ring).

Any help would be appreciated as the hub seems to just be defective.

Is there any mismatch between the zwave radio region settings and your zwave devices?

Also, have you excluded and factory reset the devices?

Yep. Should have said the regional settings are correct and match the device. And the devices are excluded and factory reset

have you tried excluding on the new hub.. does tht work.. is the old hub shut off when testing

Yep old hub is off.

I tried running exclude on the new hub. But there isn't anything paired and so nothing to exclude

not true it doesnt have to be paired to exclude.. reboot hub wait a few minutes and see if exclude on the devices works.. if so try to include.. you also need to post your zwave info under settings.. if you have tried to include too many times with failures you may have a butt load of ghosts which is why nothing is working.

Are any of the Z-Wave devices very old (e.g., 100 series)? Such devices don’t play well with the C-8 Pro’s 800 series Z-Wave chip, and should be left on the old hub, brought over by Hub Mesh.

You mentioned rebooting, but have you powered down, pulled the power cord and left it off for a minute then powered back on? Even without any connected devices, this is only way to full reset the Z-wave radio.

There is a known Z-Wave issue impacting a small subset of hubs that support states is being worked on, this is the only resolution ATM.

Yes have fully powered down the hub several times. Un plugged and left for 10 min before re plug and try again.

How/where do I see if I have ghosts in the system still?

And how do I tell if an exclude has worked?

I have some older stuff but not that old. I wouldn’t mind if it is only the old stuff that didn’t work. But the new stuff also doesn’t.

:person_shrugging:

Have you tried to exclude any of the devices using the new hub? An exclude simply clears Z-wave data from the device, you can do that using any Z-Wave controller, doesn't matter if the device is paired with the controller or not.

Make sure you are using the USB power block that came with the C8 hub...

Post screen shots of your Z-Wave details page.

If you have no z-wave devices paired yet, I would honestly go to the diagnostic tool > advanced and then reset the z-wave radio. Just in case something with the migration before mucked it up this would give the radio a clean slate.

So after much tearing my hair out, I got it to work. I ended up having to do a full factory reset of the hub, but now the z wave stuff pairs and works as expected. Would love to know what the issue was as a Z wave radio reset didn’t help.

Anyway. Thanks for all your help.

All's well that ends well, I suppose.
How many devices were involved?

edit: I missed the part about z-wave migration not possible. I can't imagine upgrading hubs without the migration tool, when a large number of devices are involved. Ugh.

Just remember, if you have a failed z-wave pairing, STOP! Go to settings>>z-z-wave details and look at the last failed entry and remove it. This is a ghost and can inhibit your mesh. Once removed, reset the device and re initiate pairing.
