I turned off Matter on my C8 to save resources. I just enabled it on the C8 Pro and tried to add a device that was commissioned and working in Apple Home. Several times after putting the device in pairing mode and pasting the apple provided code it gets so far before I see the ‘looks like you’re having trouble….’ message. I finally got it paired, named etc but it’s just created a bs device rather than the switch/outlet that it is. Can’t be controlled, just spews crap to the logs:
I have the same device, and it clearly identifies itself as a switch/outlet device — DeviceTypeList shows 0x010A, which is an On/Off Plug-in Unit as per the Matter specs:
I was just coming back to say that. Yes, I've set it to Generic Matter Outlet, hit initialise and it's working. However it's not sending anything to the logs despite being enabled. I had this one spare from some time ago and needed an outlet in a hurry to plug a valve into before I go on holiday.
I think in future I'll stick with Z Wave, Zigbee as they work without any work. It was a PITA just inputting the code - copy in Home app then it won't paste in the input box in Hubitats web page (just continually dumped a flashing cursor in the centre of the box and didn't pop up the dialogue to paste on iOS), so I'm having to switch between apps and remember the 11 digits.
Edit: Logging now working. Had to turn off, save, turn back on, save
all of the matter devices I've tested suck wind, except a TP-Link bulb. Matter is going to take a while to stop sucking and before it attains Zigbee like performance. I'm kinda glad, because they couldn't leave well enough alone with Zigbee/Z-wave, they had to "fix" it, make it appeal to the masses, hoping they would use cloud based controllers, so their user data could be siphoned off and sold. I hate big tech, big pharma, big oil, big goverment, big food, big rant over...
My minds made up to stick with the Z’s for now. Matter is probably a good choice for the casual Home Automation user. If I was just using Apple Home and some simple setup I’d be happy with it.
