Primarily due to legacy issues (now long since corrected) and the fact that I'm lazy, I have a multiple (3) hub set up. One C8 with all my Z and Matter devices, a C7 as the Automation/ Server hub and a C7 handling the Cloud integrations. I currently don't have a huge system as far as the number of devices and rules goes. A mix of (maybe) 40 Z devices, mostly Z-wave a few each Zigbee and Matter.
If I were to purchase a C8, would it Be better deployed as the device's hub, or as the automations/ Server?
Per your topic title - just to confirm, you mean C8-Pro, I assume. We "Pros" are sticklers about getting the naming right.
Good question...I'm not actually sure what puts a bigger load on the hub, lots of devices, or lots of automations/integrations. I'd think the former...but...
Looking forward to smarter people (e.g., anyone else) chiming in.
We "Pros" don't just refer to ourselves
Correct.
Based on what I'm seeing in my Grafana dashboards, it seems like the Devices place the heavier load, hence I'm leaning in that direction. But I think I can also see where the extra memory and processing power could be advantageous on the Automations side as well.
Ah, DOH, you do have hubs w/either devices (C8) or automations (C7) on them, so you can compare memory and CPU load between them. That seems like a good real-world look. C8 and C7 have the same CPU/memory...
I'd suggest first trying everything on a single C8 Pro. It's will very likely work unless you have some non-common really chatty apps/devices.
Ehh that's a lot of work to move everything back. I'm lazy, remember? haha. Every now and then I get wild hair and think about putting it all back together. Too bad you can't migrate from multiple hubs to a single hub.
I'm sure it would. I think even the C8 could, though without the matter integration. I think that is what is hitting the memory harder.
The original issue was on a C4. When the C7 came out I bought one and split the load, then things started to multiply like rabbits. Now there's 2 C8's (one not currently in service) and 2 C7's. Oh, and Home assistant on a Mini PC that I haven't done much with yet.
Just update them all to c8 pro. Discussion over
By the time I do that the C9 will be released and I’ll have to start over!
And your point is?
