I picked up a C8 pro on black friday. Yesterday I was going to migrate but ran into issues and out of time.
On the C8 I went into settings and tried to create a migration cloud backup, it took forever then my Zwave crashed.
I rebooted and everything seemed okay, but today I'm noticing some devices aren't working, especially my locks. They have 0 messages since the reboot. Other numerous devices are showing "Generic Z-Wave smart switch" now.
I figured I'd better check for guidance here before I screw up my mesh worse trying to fix it.
Note this is still the C8, I didn't even power up the Pro yet.
Well on a whim last night I did a full shutdown and power pull for a couple of minutes then let it boot back up and do it's thing.
Hub load was severe for 10-15 minutes then devices started showing messages again. Let it soak overnight.
My locks are showing the correct type now too. Everything seems to be working but I have two phantom generic zwave smart switches showing up that don't seem to match up with any real devices. They aren't in a room or used by anything either. They both have node info and out clusters as well as legit creation dates. All I can figure is they're ghosts of a old device.
Going to let it soak a bit longer and make a local backup. But I'm gunshy of trying another cloud backup to migrate now.
[Edit: Everything seems to be working. Those two generic switches that showed up I believe were resurrected from old ghosts. I did a refresh and was able to remove them after making sure all other zwave devices were accounted for]
It's not recommended on a C8 anyway, some have run it fine, others run into issues, so you're best on Zip until you get everything settled, and until you upgrade to a C8-Pro.
Sounds like a plan. My current situation is C8 in the house, C7 in the detached garage. Once I upgrade the house to the C8 pro, I'll upgrade the garage to the C8 from the house.
Well I just retried the back up and migration. Seems to have worked this time. Getting a little nervous about zigbee however. A few devices are reporting, but I can't control any devices.
Kept the channel and power the same, and some devices I'm seeing incrementing messages in the zigbee stats. Hopefull it just takes a bit to stabilize.
Yeah, definitely did. It's sitting on my desk. I'm about 2 hours in now and still seems like zigbee is in discovery. Curious if it really takes this long or I got something else wonky going on..
