I had an almost successful upgrade from C7 to C8 Pro. Both units running up to date firmware. Backed up C7 to cloud and baked up locally, powered down, powered up C8 pro, migrated, rebooted and zigbee radio offline. Restored local backup, no radio error. Now the zigbee switches would respond to on, but no status back and physically turning on a switch does not update in the hub. Zwave is working. Tried reboot, tried restore apps. Operating back on the C7 for now. Any further suggestions prior to removing and reinstalling every zigbee device?
You have to re-pair the zigbee devices after the migration. They will re-join on the new hub with the old name and drivers so that part is not a problem. Running around the house and poking a paper clip in holes and guessing how long to hold it down? Pain in the a** but it's what you do.
You should not have to re-pair, though if that solves your problem, that is certainly a possible solution.
For narrowing down your problems:
- What Zigbee channel are you on? Some people have had problems with 20, even though it has historically been good, but changing to another good channel for your environment may help. (This may require re-pairing, especially if the devices aren't responsive and seemingly more with some brands than others, but it can theoretically just work on its own.)
- Do any Zigbee devices have a high message count in the Zigbee Details table? (Maybe hundreds or even thousands even if they aren't working, whereas few or none or maybe dozens for others?) If so, they might be misbehaving, and temporarily un-powering them may help. Support can really see more from your engineering logs if needed, but this might be a good proxy.
- If you haven't tried a plain reboot of your hub (from Settings), that may also help.
- In the rare event you received a dud antenna, swapping the Zigbee and Z-Wave antennas (the ones that come with the hub are the same, dual-band) may help.
Otherwise, I'd also poke Logs for anything unexpected, but the fact that you've seemingly narrowed the problem down to just Zigbee devices is helpful.
Thank you both for the reply. I am on channel 20. Nothing showing int the Zigbee Details Table message counts. All show 0 actually. I added a new switch to test it and the new switch works perfect. Also, messages show for that switch are in the table. I have a total of 24 Inovelli Blue series switches which I will re-pair at this point.
If you're going to re-pair anyway (and remember that you don't need to remove Zigbee devices before doing so; they'll be recognized as the same one if you don't, greatly simplifying everything after that), I'd suggest changing to a different channel, even an adjacent one like 21 or whatever is good in your environment. There are some (as far as I know) unknown issues that have cropped up rarely but very disruptively with a few people on this channel, so it can't hurt to try--worst case is you'd need to re-pair (or wait), but you're already doing that.
Thanks. C8 now working properly. Re-Paired all switches. A note to anyone else having this issue... had to update the preferences for each switch as they re-paired to factory default (no dimmers or multi speed fans). Had to Save Preferences and Save Device for each switch.
