C7 to C8 Migration - No Z-Wave Devices work

There is:

  1. Reset both radios.
  2. Delete any locally stored files.
  3. Do a soft reset without a database restore, and delete local backups.
  4. From the My Hubitat portal, unregister your hub.

The device is now factory new with no personal information.

I have sold a few of my hubs over the years, and this was the procedure I followed.

That is a soft reset. My C8 is in a broken state and when I turn it on, it tries to connect to my devices. That last 2 times I tried, I had to reset up my C7 all over again.

So the migration worked. If I remember correctly, the issue you had with Z-Wave was an easy fix, but you wanted to stay on your old hub instead of moving to C8, which I understand, and respect your decision. If you are having trouble resetting, please send me a private message and will help you out resetting your C-8.

A soft reset is a soft reset.

A soft reset plus the other steps @aaiyar listed is a hard/factory reset.

If I have to connect it to my network, login (all while it is trying to take control of my other devices), that is a soft reset. Again, I love the attitude of the Ambassadors. I used to be a strong advocate for this product. I talked it up every time I had an opportunity, then I tried getting help and get nothing but attitude. I will never suggest this product to others people again.

It connects to my ZigBee and all of my connected systems. I have to reconnect anything that is connected and re-connect my ZigBee every time I plug it in. I tried the "easy fix" it still didn't work.

Sorry to hear you’re getting so frustrated. It does sound like a frustrating situation. Good luck.

I seem to have a similar issue. Just migrated from C-7 to C-8 (latest firmware on both), and zigbee devices work normally, but z-wave devices do not accept any commands (those that are sensors are sending information normally, e.g. humidity / temperature values). Routing table seems ok.

That's almost a symptom of a "stuck" ZWave SOC/Radio chip. The standard fixup for it is to power down the hub... not just a reboot. Neither of the Z-radios are affected by a reboot. Only a power cycle affects them. Settings: Shutdown. When the LED goes red, pull the power at the wall and give some seconds for the internal power to drain away. 5-10 seconds. Then plug it back in and if it was "stuck" it will work again.

I had disabled / re-enabled z-wave radio in the settings hoping that would essentially be the same as shutdown. Anyway, now (without shutdown) z-wave devices have started to accept commands

Nope, not the same. Better to do the "Shutdown Shuffle:"

  • Settings> Shut Down
  • Pull power at the wall (avoid stressing USB connection on hub)
  • Wait at least a minute
  • Plug in and let things boot up

I used to think that as well, but it turns out it just disconnects the software stack from the radio. The radio remains powered on. Also, if you migrate to a new hub, but still use the old one for anything, best to change the Zigbee channel on the old hub prior to disabling it since it will still be broadcasting.

Not the same. Power is still supplied to the z-wave radio. Likely the it's corrupt. As @danabw says, shutdown, unplug power for a couple of mins and power back up. Then post your z-wave details page so we can check if there are any more issues. (use windows snip)

Since something similar happened to me the other day, and in the interest of "science", lol, I thought I'd try it again.

I first disabled z-wave radio and hit "save".
As expected, no devices appeared in the details list and z-wave devices did not work.
When hitting "enabled" and "save", the page took a long time to refresh, and nothing happened on the page.
I refreshed the page, and still, nothing on the page.
The devices worked, but nothing appeared on the details page.
The devices reappeared when I rebooted; I did not have to go to shutdown/power cycle.

That's a UI/browser glitch. As long as devices worked, the surgery was successful.
