C7 Stuck starting up

Yep, but since a soft reset is failing repeatedly that doesn't seem to offer any additional help. Unless I'm missing something... Which pretty much happens all the time. :man_shrugging:

Sometimes the downgrade with its database rebuild is enough to let the hub complete it’s reboot, which then normally let’s a restore work, from which you can upgrade back to a newer firmware.

Doesn’t always work, but …

Ok, I finally got this working. The key was to downgrade to 2.3.7.146 in the diagnostic tools. There was an option for downgrading to this specific version in the advanced settings. After that I did a restore from the local backup and everything started to work. To get things back to where I had them I used the diagnostic tool to upgrade back to the 2.3.8.140 version I was running. Then I needed to do a soft reset and a local restore. I luckilly had not nuked my local z-wave, though I guess I could have cloud restored that.

Before this fixed I tried doing a cloud migration to a c-8 pro on 2.3.7.146 but my z-wave network did not get restored correctly. It showed the z-wave devices in my device list, but when I went to settings z-wave nothing was there even after a power cycle. Since my backups were on 2.3.7.140 I'm thinking that may have been the issue. I might try that again on the most recent version of the platform later on.

This is definitely not an ideal situation that I needed to spend tons of time to figure this out and I still have not heard anything from the Hubitat team about this. This is for a second home, I had not made any config changes and this happened after I did a reboot remotely. I am a bit concerned about what will happen if there is a long power outage and this corrupts the db. I really need something that is reliable while I am not there....and something that is not getting a corrupt db on a restart to the point of it being un-usable....for me, this is used for lighting automations so that people do not think that nobody is home.

You need a way to gracefully shut down your hub during a power outage.

Short answer is modem. router, and hub on UPS. Additionally, a wi-fi plug for the hub,, a device that can tell the hub when it has lost power (changed from mains to battery) and an app or rule to initiate a shutdown. Restart the hub via the wi-fi plug when the power and internet is back up.

It works great!

I use the excellent Power Outage Manager App by @thebearmay.

There have been many enhancements and bug fixes since the release of 2.3.7. When attempting to migrate, ensuring that the hubs are running the latest version is imperative to a successful process and to avoid unintended consequences. It is also the fist step in the migration documentation.

The good news is that I checked your hub and the cloud backup last night was successful after updating to version 2.3.9.201, so you should not be running into any more problems going forward. :crossed_fingers:
