C7 Local Backups Fail on 2.3.8.122 (using Vivaldi)

I have just updated from 2.3.8.120 to 2.3.8.122 and local backups no longer work.

When I click the "Create and download new local backup" button I get the spinning busy icon for about 2 seconds. Then nothing happens. It usually takes a minute or two before the "File Save As" dialog box pops up. I've waited for 10 minutes and still nothing. Note that doing a cloud backup works fine.

Unable to duplicate.

C-7 v2.3.8.122 Clicked Create and download new local backup and the spinning circle ran for 15 seconds, and the file was downloaded, 1.1mb in size. Used Chrome on a Mac Mini.

I'm not arguing against what you are seeing, just saying "it's not everyone".

This appears to be a browser problem. I normally use Vivaldi but tried the backup on MS Edge and it worked. I could blame the browser, but I've never seen this issue in the 3 years of updating my C7.

Odd issues can come up suddenly in some cases...I was unable to log into a site I've been using for years the other day. Had to go in and delete cache/cookies for that site to make it work normally again. May not be your issue, but weird stuff does happen.

You might try the cache/cookie clearing for the hub's IP.

I have to delete the browser cache in Chrome quite often when I'm updating our condo association website.

I tried uninstalling my browser and re-installing it with a blank setup, so no cookies extensions , etc. and it still does it. I can download files from any site except for backups from my habitat.
I am going to step back the platform version to see if it still happens.

Flip the network speed setting in HE network settings from Auto to 100, or 100 to Auto. Then try it.

On my C-7, I just had too many unresponsive devices with 2.3.8.

I have rolled back to 2.3.7.146 and everything is working properly again.

Changing to Fixed 100 from Auto didn't change anything.
Rolling back platform to 2.3.7 didn't fix it either. This is strange, as it started to happen when updating to 2.3.8. Perhaps something else is at play here. Still continuing to troubleshoot.

If it works with one browser but not the other, I wouldn't be looking at troubleshooting the problem at hub level. Doing so can only result in making things worse. I would rather troubleshoot the problem with the browser that is not working. Maybe a recent browser update changed something. Have you tried reverting the browser updates?

The cause was a Vivaldi browser update. Stepping back to the previous version fixes it. However, there are several of these "download-a-file" testing websites that all work fine with both versions. The exception is Hubitat which is sensitive to the new version. I'm not blaming anyone as I've run into software compatibilities before.

Do those testing websites attempt to download a file that is from an http (vs an https) website? I think the overall issue with chromium based browsers is that chrome is protecting us all from downloading from insecure sites. I am betting that is at the root of the vivaldi issue.

For the record, I had not updated Vivaldi to 6.6 yet. I attempted the download on 6.5.3206.63. The download worked just fine (I am on 2.3.8.122 on my hub). I then updated to Vivaldi 6.6 and just 2 minutes later, and get the same issues as you. This is 100% on the Vivaldi version and not the hub.

I just reported the bug to Vivaldi.

FYI, you can download the prior version here: (and it works again) Old Versions of Vivaldi | Vivaldi Browser
NOTE: You have to uninstall the current version first. But, I did not log out of the instance, and was still logged in with Vivaldi immediately on reinstall of the older version.

Downloaded Vivaldi 6.5.3206.63 and it works again. So DEFINITELY a Vivaldi issue

Also, you should report the issue as well. More squeaks, more likely to get fixed.

I already reported the issue. After searching, technical people have posted that it's related to a javascript bug in v6.6. Thanks for verifying the problem.

Good information! I too, hadn't had any problems until I updated Vivaldi last night. Today, no download. Rolled the browser back and voila.

That is the reason I posted the steps to revert in the case that others had this problem.

Awesome. Since you said that, I did a search for javascript error version 6.6. Appears the moderator on the forum on at least one thread thinks it's okay to not get a prompt to download. Hopefully, they get a fix for it.

I rolled Vivladi back to 6.5. It does work now, but the "About" dialog says it's running 6.6. Strange.

Don't bother with the minor update to 6.6 on Vivaldi. Issue still present.

So, per the forum, it is NOT the JS issue. It is the "insecure download" protection that cancels the download with no user notification. The JS issue is supposedly fixed now though.
