C7 Hub Died

Came home yesterday to find my C7 hub with no power. Tested the power cable and it is functional. Replugged into the unit and I get nothing. I ordered a C8 Pro that should be here today. Anyway to restore the devices, settings, and rules? I assume the local backup is on the device which I can not access? Is there a cloud backup of my last update that can be restored to the new hub if I don't have a hub protect subscription?

No. If you can bring your C-7 back to life, you can create a migration backup, as described here:

I tried. Not sure why it’s not getting power. It has been mounted in the same spot for years. Never touched the power cable. Must have just died.

Check the microUSB solder connections.

I looked at them. Hard for me to tell but they definitely look like they don’t make solid contact with the board. So tiny though. Any spots on the board to direct connect power to?

Do you have a soldering station? Others have re-soldered or reflowed those contacts. Any electronics repair shops near you?

I have a soldering gun. Never attempted anything like this

It will to be one with temperature control and a very fine tip. Find an electronics repair shop .....

I understand that the C7 uses a USB power block, and a USB-A. to micro-USB cable. Same thing as many other devices in your home.

Have you tried using a different USB power brick and cable to rule them out? Alternatively, you could try and power a phone or other device using the Hubitat's power brick and cable.

I powered an old speaker with the brick and cable.

Can you take a detailed photo of the microUSB connector and post it?

We'd need confirmation from someone with better eyes than me. MicroUSB is powered by pins 1 and 5. And it seems to me that the solder on pin 5 (closest to the cap) is not okay.

Tagging @csteele and @JasonJoel for their opinion.

In the meanwhile, plug it into power and gently apply pressure from the top. If it powers up, then you know it's an issue that can be resolved.

It's not really your eyes because the image is blurry at that magnification. But Yes, I agree, the pin closest to the cap seems different from the others.

IF you had a spudger, you could use it to press those pins and power it up to get verification that the LED comes on at least. But yes, a phone repair shop will have the tools to reflow the pins if the 'spudger test' gives a positive result. (You don't need to power it all the way up. pressing on the pins.. the test is just to tell you if that's the problem. I think it's 15-20 seconds for the blue LED to light up.)

If the goal is just to get a cloud migration backup, and you can get it to power up by pushing on the connector, might be able to just tape or hot glue it in place temporarily so it will stay on long enough to make a backup.

This is my worst nightmare, sorry this happened to you . Quick question if he had a cloud back up with the protect plan couldn’t he use that when he get the c8 ? Or even if a local back up on usb ?

Cloud backup - yes, this is what they are designed for, total hub failure or disaster. A couple of clicks and you should be up and going again.

Local backup - partially, would only get you apps, rules, and zigbee partially. Would need to pair all zigbee again. Z-wave would be a mess and needs a special procedure to pair every devices again but not impossible.

Yes.

Local backup is less useful in this instance.

You guys are absolutely brilliant. Got it up to blue then green but lost my grip. Got it holding stable but can’t get it off blue anymore. I can log in through 8181 and get to the diagnostics. Can I do the migration from there?

Do a soft reset. See if it comes back with the platform.
