I've had a C5 dropping off the network regularly for many years (the C5 is ethernet only fwiw, so this isn't a wifi thing). I've just been dealing with it, but the family is tired of Hue lights not working from my Lutron pico switches. I put a hardware timer on it to reboot nightly at 3am, but it's not staying up long enough. I don't know if it's the hardware or if there is some driver causing it (or if a driver can even be low level enough to cause it). At this point I'm just throwing darts, I'd be willing to upgrade to a C8 if it could solve the problem. And if it's easy to migrate all my drivers/settings over to a new device (hopefully a backup/restore would work). Any thoughts?
This is rarely a hub issue and more of your network having a problem like jumbo frames enabled.
definitely not jumbo frames. but i'm open to other ideas. very robust 10Gb unifi network here that's extremely solid and reliable. zero issues with any other devices (and i have a couple hundred).
Not a good idea. Cutting power to the hub leads to database corruption which will exacerbate the symptoms you’ve seen.
I’d recommend doing a soft reset followed by a database restore.
How have you verified this?
Another rare issue that I have seen cause issues like this is a marginal power supply for the Hubitat Hub. Do you have a decent 1-2A USB power supply, and possibly a different microUSB cable that you could try to see if that makes any difference? How about a different Ethernet patch cord? While rare, over the years I have seen these often overlooked items be the root cause of hub issues.
I have been using Hubitat Elevation hubs for the past 6 years, starting with the C3 and now I am running a C8 Pro. I have been using Ubiquiti UniFi switches for a few years now, and I do not have any issues. So it is definitely not an incompatibility issue. My C5 hub did just die one day after a software reboot. So, hardware failures while rare, are not out of the question.
If you do decide to buy a new C8 or C8 Pro hub, you should be able to create a Migration Cloud backup that will allow you to easily migrate to the new hub. The only gotcha is if you are using an external Z-Wave radio dongle. If I recall correctly, not all of those will work seamlessly during the migration process.
And here are the details regarding C5 hub and Z-Wave migration
Thanks for all that info, I didn't know about the pro but just decided to take the plunge and ordered a pro. I've for sure gotten my $$$ worth out of this C-5, so what the heck, let's see if this solves things.
so far so good with the C8P. migrated from my C5 yesterday and it's still up.
