Aren't we all, in a way?

And yet I've been reminded more than a few times, at least one "officially"
...not to rely on HE as a Home Security Device. Oh. OK. Liability-speak is what that is.

I think this is proof that, Security Applications or not, we're at or above that level when it comes to needing reliability (and perhaps even redundancy) as HE becomes an operational centerpiece on your property.

I rely on "no one needs this guy" as a Home Security Device.

related.. anyone know when doing the backup and restore to the new hub.. do unrelated settings copy over, like zigbee power, zigbee channel etc.

As far as I remember my power and channel settings transferred from C8 to C8 when I had a replacement C8 sent to me. But it's been a while so not 100% sure. I don't remember having to modify those settings after a migration.

I can confirm, I didn't change anything after C-8 to C-8 migration.

I couldn't add devices reliably while I powered my C8 via PoE. Took me a while and some help here in the forum to figure out...

And I've heard that after a C8 > C8-Pro migration your hair feels softer.

What type of devices were these? Zigbee, Z-Wave, other?

Ah. Those were the days......
If only I had some!

OMG...spit out the coffee again!!

Thanks for lifting the intellectual level of the conversation again. I never knew that there was a medical option for hair replacement like that.

I have noticed that with the last few firmware updates, the memory leakage on my C-8 has much improved. In the last 30 days it has not dropped below 400 MB. The CPU load never rises above 10%. So while the C-8 Pro looks inviting, I don't believe it will make much of a difference in my situation...less than 80 devices and no heavy load consuming apps.

It's that kind of rational, calm thinking that keeps people from exploring strange new hubs; seeking out new settings and new automations; to boldly go where no HA has gone before!

But you do you, that's OK.

So in other words, nothing compelling in the package to step up to.

I'm not going to cast judgement on that, but what I will say is that this clouds up the product line to the degree that I hope they just drop the C-8 and sell what's obviously more-headroom-under-the-hood in the C-8 Pro. I don't think price is a differentiator here. New folks coming in will pay the step up.

Besides, I can't figure out a way to justify it to my wife. :slightly_smiling_face:

Does the hub hassle you about having a wife?! No, it does not!

So why does a wife get to hassle you about having a hub?!

Let's have some reasonable reciprocity, puhleeze!
