C-8 Pro in Canada

@bravenel I emailed aartech.ca when the C-8 Pro was announced as it wasn't showing on their website. The salesman i talked to knew nothing about it. They said they would get back to me with pricing and availability. Nothing yet.

Any other ways to get it in Canada without taking the chance on the duties and taxes?

I have always ordered directly from Hubitat and never had to pay duties. Maybe I’m just lucky but I have to C5s and two C7s purchased on four separate orders over the years.

I always found aartech marks up quite a bit.

I know Amazon is out of the question and they don’t have the pro listed yet either.

I have been charged duties/taxes once on my C4 I think.

We stopped using carriers like UPS, FedEx and DHL to Canada because it's guaranteed that they will collect taxes, duty and customs brokerage fee. But US Postal Service delivered by Canada Post usually works, as it appears the Canada Post is lazy about collecting. I know that sometimes they do, and it's impossible to know if they will or not. My impression is that it's pretty rare.

As for Amazon, we'd like to offer that, but again, it would be a certainty that they'd collect duty and taxes.

I will wait and see how much aartech comes back at. Their shipping is free where hubitat wants $33 to ship to me, putting the hub up to $279CDN. It may be the way to go if i dont get dinged with duties/taxes .

We pass through our actual cost to ship to all customers worldwide, no markup involved.

Oh yes, I know shipping is crazy. Not on you.

With paying taxes to aartech I am sure it will be at least as much or more. I have an email chain with them now so i might as well wait.

Shipping north of the wall into communist Canada is a bit slow but a mule will smuggle it up here eventually.

Currently C8 is listed at CAD$219 + tax on AArtech. Hubitat sells it for US$149 on their site = CAD$200 + $33 shipping + possibility of being hit by Canada Post’s $9.95 customs clearance fee (computer and related items are duty free) + taxes…. In practice, AArtech’s markup vanishes in the end + they tack on an additional 3 months of warranty. Anecdotally my experience with their shipping and customer service has been stellar.

Here is the response from aartech.ca..

Jason,

Nothing as of yet.

We do find they delay the release on many of these things into Canada

for some reason.

We will keep you posted when we hear something.

Not sure about your ability to order from Amazon.com, but if I were to order I could have it by February 2 for approximately $314.88 CAD.

I have an account and sometimes use it. Its cheaper from Hubitat's website. $279CDN shipped with a chance of duties./taxes but sounds like only a small chance.

I will most likely order from Hubitat, I was just waiting on word from aartech, no rush on my part.

LOL. So random. Your import fees are around $11 CAD higher than for me.
