Hello. About a year ago I migrated from a C7 to a C8.
A number of things have never worked on the C8.
Basic rules dont trigger
Rule Machine doesnt trigger
Mode Manager doesnt change modes
Hubitat Package Manager never installs or updates any packages.
I havent had time to really dig into this. Ive got a work around and thats hub mesh with my old C7. Which is changing modes for me, and triggering rules on mesh'ed devices from the C8.
It literally makes no sense. I can have a rule to trigger turning on a light in 5 minutes and 5 minutes goes by and nothing. however the same rule on the C7 with the mesh'ed version of the light and it triggers fine.
I'm ready to fully wipe the C8 and do a restore, but before I do that does anyone have a clue on how to fix these issues? Its almost as if my apps are in read-only mode and have no permissions to actually do anything on the device.
What platform version are you running? Settings > Hub Details will say for sure.
Without knowing more, I'd try a soft reset and restore:
Go to Settings > Backup and Restore, then select Create and download under Create and download new local backup.
Click Browse... under Upload local backup and restore to hub, locate the file you downloaded above, and then click Restore File.... (and confirm when prompted).
Wait for the process to complete; the hub will reboot when it's done.
If you have Hub Protect, do all of the above under the "Local Backup" tab. Note that you don't actually have to reset anything (even though I said something about a soft reset), as the restore of the database clears the existing database (i.e., does a soft reset) on its own. Do not reset any radios.
If you restore as instructed above, you won't have to start over--this is a safe operation. If you reset the radios or don't restore (or both), you will have to start at least partly (or completely) over. These are different processes with different outcomes; there's no reason to be afraid of a plain soft reset as above.
Thanks for the ideas.
Time is set correctly, lat/long is set correctly. I set up a basic rule last night and of course it didn't fire.
This is basic stuff I'm doing here and I'm not an idiot. Something is major wrong with the hub and I guess the only thing to try is buy a new one or switch back to smartthings.
Using my old C-7 to fire rules with devices connect to the C-8 is stupid. But it's only thing working right now and I don't have hours to kill right now trying stuff.
You're definitely not an idiot, and I would expect swapping to another platform is likely to take more time than resolving your issue with your HE rule. I can't offer a solution, only to say hang in there, there must be a simple solution out there.... If not from the Community, then @bobbyD may be able to find someone who can...
Not sure if it helps guys, but lots of things are broken on this hub (C-8) that work fine on my old hub (C-7).
Mode Manager never changes the mode - I change the mode from the C-7 through hub mesh.
None of my time based jobs work
Hubitat Package Manager, which works flawlessly on my C-7 wont work on the C-8. Its able to scan/match for apps, but then it never 'pulls them in' ... further if I click to install an app, it never installs, and also update never runs. it just hangs indefinitely. It really feels to me like HPM doesn't have necessary permissions to do anything on the hub. No clue to to change that.
These details might help. This isn't just a simple - 'why doesn't time based triggers happen?' I think its all connected. Which is why a full wipe / start over made the most sense to me, but I cant figure how to do a factory full wipe. I don't think resetting radios will do it here. This is like an OS reinstall.
Happened to me once recently on a C7 that the scheduler wasn’t running at all. If you go to the scheduled jobs tab of the logs page, do you see a bunch of jobs scheduled in the past?
IIRC I had to soft reset using the diagnostic tool then restore a previous (cloud) backup to get things going again.
rather than waste anymore time troubleshooting this any further. Does anyone know if you can migrate a C-8 database from one C-8 to another? and not have to re-pair every device?
If you’re paying for the Hubitat Hub Protect service, you can perform a Cloud Backup (which includes the Zigbee and Z-Wave radios). Then, you can restore that cloud backup to the new C8 hub. There are detailed instructions in the Hubitat Documentation.
