Exciting times with the announcement of the C-8 hub. I can't wait to jump in and replace my three hubs.
As part of my due diligence, I checked my existing devices against the compatibility list and much to my disappointment it looks like several of my devices; that were previously supported in HE are no longer on the list.
Can anyone comment on the supportability of the Zooz ZEN14 and ZEN25 devices with the new HE C-8 hub?
Since they have been removed from the list within the last 6 months (last time I checked and they were still there when I purchased them) any idea how long they will be supported once removed from the list or is support immediately dropped?
I purchased 13 Zooz ZEN25 double plugs, multiple Zooz ZEN25 devices. I am heavily invested in Zooz products (98% of my entire home) with an upward cost of several thousand dollars of in-wall switches, motion sensors, leak sensors, wall plugs, etc. and now they (2 for now) seem to be disappearing from the Hubitat Elevation compatibility list. What happening
Anyone know when I migrate to the new C-8 hub will the Zooz ZEN14 and ZEN 25 devices continue to work on the new C-8 hub and continue to work on my existing C-7 hubs for some foreseeable future if they are z-wave compliant?
@user837 Just because they're not on the official does not mean they do not work.
The problem with those devices is that they can overwhelm the mesh and zooz has not released a firmware to fix them. Now that said the best approach for those devices is to pair them without security and turn off power reporting as it's the power reporting that crushes any z-wave 700 or above mesh. If you have any zooz 4-in-1 sensors, they will need paired via a z-wave stick paired to hubitat so it can pair with no security. Once that is done remove the stick and have fun. (this applies to the 500 series 4-in-1, for the 700 just opt out of security on pairing)
I have two ZEN25 (double plug) and a ZEN14 (outdoor double plug). Along with 4 of the infamous ZSE40 (4-in-1 sensor). I also have nearly all Zooz devices. All ran fine on the C7, and will run fine on C8. People have issues when the devices are not configured well, and spam out info constantly.
If you have all those devices on a C7 now and do not have issues, you will have LESS issues on the C8. If you are adding all those ZEN25 devices, add them one by one and if you will not be using the power reporting make sure you change the parameter that shuts off the reporting (need to use the basic zwave tool to set it manually). If you will use the reporting dial back the intervals as much as you can to still get the info you need.
Thank you so much! When initially installing the devices I did install without security and reporting (only because of this great forum!!) so it sounds like I should be good to go. Can't wait to get my order in for the C-8 hubs :-).
I had not thought about this until I read this thread. My initial swap for my C8 will be from a C5, and it has two of the old Zooz 4 in 1s currently on it. They have worked well, I believe when they paired with the C5 it is without security so they should migrate over to the new hub without security?
Quick update. I spoke with Zooz support (submitted at the same time of the creation of this thread). They indicated the devices will continue to work.
They provided the same recommendations previously made by rlithgo1. The non-supportability of this device is caused by the heavy payload incurred when reporting and measuring are on and also if security is selected during the inclusion process. They confirmed that if this reporting is needed, keep the reporting activity to the absolute minimum to avoid mesh performance issues. Thank you rlithgo1 and to all others who responded!!
You folks are great. I was initially concerned that I was going to have an operational issue but you folks talked me off the ledge :-).
Guaranteed proper error checking. It has proven to be effective in two cases recently, with corrupted messages coming through. Once switched to S2 the bad messages stopped. When I get around to rebuilding my zwave I am going to go all S2 and see how it performs on the C8.
But yes, it can decrease performance, but maybe not with the 800 zwave.
This failure to remedy is one of the reasons I quit buying Zooz devices. Thankfully I only have one of theses terrible Zen25 devices that I got stuck with when buying it bundled with my C7 (IIRC).
I bought that same bundle and have two ZEN25 in my mesh, they work fine. The problem was terrible defaults and not having all the settings exposed by the system driver. Once configured correctly they work just fine.
I realize this is slightly off-topic, but a word of caution to @user837...
I have had three Zen25 double-plugs all fail on me within the past month. They were all only about 2-3 years old. In one of the failures which, thankfully I was there to witness before it damaged the items plugged into it, each of the two plugs started frantically/continuously toggling on/off after I cycled the power off/on via Zwave control, and in the other two cases, the plugs just died completely after being turned back on via ZWave. I was using these to power chargers & other random things (like a cordless vacuum) in my utility closets, which I shut down when I leave one house to go stay at my other home, so they're not needlessly sucking electricity while I'm away for a few weeks. In all three cases, the voltage loads plugged in were relatively light, so that shouldn't have caused the problem. I've since replaced all three of the Zen25s with Zen15 Power Switches into which I've plugged good old dumb power strips/surge protectors.
I also had similarly bad experiences with several of the first-generation Zen20 Power Strips. Beware if you have any of those (second-gen versions seem to be fine so far).
