C-7 Z-Wave stopped communicating — radio health true, empty Z-Wave logs, antenna test won't run

I have a Hubitat C-7 running platform 2.5.1.152. My Z-Wave network suddenly stopped functioning.
Multiple previously working Z-Wave switches/dimmers no longer respond to commands, and physical changes at the switches are not being reported back to Hubitat.
Troubleshooting so far:
• Properly shut down and power-cycled the C-7.
• Z-Wave Details says “Z-Wave is enabled” and all of my existing nodes are still present.
• Tried a route rebuild on node 0x001B (Pantry Dimmer); it failed as “node unreachable.”
• Other Z-Wave switches are also not responding, so this is not isolated to that device.
• Z-Wave Antenna Test will not actually start. It remains Idle with Test Number 0 and no RSSI results, regardless of the mains-powered device selected.
• Z-Wave Logs remain completely blank, even when physically operating Z-Wave switches and sending commands from Hubitat.
• /hub/zwave/healthStatus returns true.
• /hub/zwaveVersion returns:
zWaveProtocolVersion:7
zWaveProtocolSubVersion:14
firmware0Version:7
firmware0SubVersion:14
• The Z/IP Gateway reports that 7.18 is already running.
• I temporarily checked the documented 7.15 gateway procedure and rebooted, but no Z-Wave “Firmware Update” button appeared on Z-Wave Details.
• I have NOT excluded, factory-reset, or re-paired any Z-Wave devices.
• I made a fresh local backup before doing further troubleshooting.
The hub itself and its web interface are functioning normally. Could Hubitat staff please check whether the Z-Wave process/radio is malfunctioning and advise on the appropriate C-7 recovery procedure? I don't want to reset the Z-Wave radio or lose the existing Z-Wave network.

Pinging @bcopeland

Have you tried doing two things:

  1. A soft reset followed by a database restore?
  2. Booting the hub in safe mode?

Also, if this happened right after updating to 2.5.1.152, then use the Diagnostic Tool to revert to an older platform version and test whether that restores function.

Thank you for the prompt response. I'll try and now and report back.

Update: I rolled the C-7 back from 2.5.1.152 to 2.4.3.123 and restored my 12:31 PM backup. Z-Wave communication is now working again. I tested both the Basement Light Switch and Pantry Dimmer directly from Hubitat, and both respond normally. Neither worked on 2.5.1.152, including in Safe Mode. The soft reset attempt on 2.5.1.152 also failed with “Could not soft reset hub’s database.”

Tagging @bcopeland.

There might be something going on with 2.5.1.x and some older hubs running Z/IP gateway. There's another case like this on the forum.

Not a lot to go on here, yet.. But if it was a wider issue with Z/IP users, I would think it would have made more noise..

It doesn't appear to be a radio issue because the version report was returned and that requires the radio to be communicating..

I would like to look at the logs.. @snooks570 can you PM me your hub id?

From what I can tell from the logs.. The chip was locked up.. But it was the reboot that fixed it and not the downgrade.. You should be safe to upgrade again..

I will upgrade in the next few days and report back if zwave is behaving normally.
