Best Z-wave Deadbolt for front door

My amazing wife bought me a smart lock for Christmas because she knows I was looking into getting one for our front door. Unfortunately I do not think this lock is Z-wave compatible. The lock she bought me is a Yale Assure Lock SL (part # YRD256-CBA619). One thing that I would prefer is still being able to use a key just incase the battery dies. The Yale lock requires you to have a 9V battery on hand when the lock dies since it is a keyless lock.. I doubt I will be randomly carrying a 9V battery on me when that happens. Does anyone know of the best Z-wave plus lock that I can get? I have been looking at the Schlage connect 469zp lock. I am not trying to spend much more than $200.

That appears to be the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth model. For locks that work natively with Hubitat over Zigbee or Z-Wave, I'd consult this list: https://docs.hubitat.com/index.php?title=List_of_Compatible_Devices (you can sort by the "Device Type" column and look for "Locks" to make this easier).

I have two Schlage Connect deadbolts and like them. I bought one because I saw it was well recommended here at the time, and I bought the second after having a pleasant enough experience with the first. Mine are the "classic" Z-Wave models because I got them just before the Plus models were announced, but I can only imagine those would be better. In fact, if I had to do it again, I'd probably get the Zigbee versions (also introduced right after I got mine), but if you have a strong Z-Wave mesh, you shouldn't have a problem with Z-Wave, either (if you don't: be prepared for headaches with the hub not getting lock/unlock status from the device with physical locks/unlocks, and don't try to control too many at one time remotely). Do be prepared to bring the hub close to the lock if needed for pairing--often necessary for secure devices like locks and garage door openers.

That being said, if you prefer Yale, there are several on that list as well. I have a Kevo Convert (not techincally on that list but works fine with the Generic Z-Wave Lock driver) on a side door that allowed me to replace just the interior portion of the deadbolt and keep my existing Schlage key (and everything else) on the outside. I like having the keypad elsewhere, but units like this are fine for this door I rarely use.

Just some personal experience! I'm sure you'll get other recommendations, but from people with the Zigbee version or a strong Z-Wave network, I suspect you'll continue to get more for the Schlage Connect.

I have the YRD256 with the Z-Wave Plus module. It slows when the battery is getting low. You really have little to be concerned about, but if you only have one entrance, no place close by to get a 9volt in a pinch and just want a key, the YRD226 is the same module, motor and control board ( for the most part), but has a jetway. I have a YRD256 Z-Wave and a YRD246 HomeKit which are also the same as the YRD226 (it’s the keypad and outer housing that are the primary differences.

Excellent locks. I prefer the look of the YRD256, but the YRD246 with the HomeKit Module was just too good a deal to pass up, so it’s on my back door.

Both are very reliable. I would stay with one of the aforementioned three models, knowing what I do about them.

To which I will add, it is very rare to read a concern about Yale z-wave locks not working with Hubitat.

Although I have the same Schlage locks as @bertabcd1234, and like him have no complaints about them, the original z-wave BE469 is the lock that is most frequently complained about.

For what it's worth, with a strong z-wave mesh, I have had zero issues with my 2 Schlage BE469s. That said, it's kind of an older model. I'd look into the newer options if I were in the market again for smart locks.

I have two Yale T1L that work great, so long as the z-wave network is not jammed up with events or polling.

I also have a Kwikset 910 that's mostly ok but slightly more garbage.

I'd love to upgrade everything to z-wave plus but I don't think the T1L can be swapped.

I've also had Schlage BE469 and and BE369s all over, and have never had an issue with them since migrating to Hubitat from ST. I did buy a new Zwave Plus version - but here's the REAL reason I'm sticking with Schlage...

I've had 3 indoor one's (BE369 I think) have a button ripped off by my dumbassed german shepard, and they've sent me replacements with 0 questions asked! Same with one BE469 who's keypad went "bad" probably from the same dumbassed dog...

They're customer service is the BEST.
