Best Way to Remove Hue Bridge and All Hue Bulbs?

I bought a hue bridge and a handful of bulbs. They didn't work out for me and I returned them. I still have the Hue Bridge app installed and it's showing all of my bulbs. Some of them have different rules, etc set up. Once I replace the bulbs, I will re-use the rules, but so I don't screw anything up, is it safe to just delete the Hue Bridge app and that will pull all of the hue devices out too or is that going to muck anything up? What's the easiest, yet cleanest way to remove all the Hue stuff without screwing anything up?

Thanks!

Once each Hue bulb's device details page shows that it is no longer associated with any Apps/Rules, you can safely Remove that device. Once all of the Hue bulb Devices have been removed, you can remove the Hue integration App.

At least that's how I would approach it. The ensures nothing is left behind.

I was afraid you'd say that. lol. Thanks for confirming though!

I would definitely remove the device from each app you're using it in (especially rules, which can get messed up beyond repair--except re-creation--if you aren't careful with this), as above.

However, my experience shows that removing the Hue Bridge Integration app will delete all the "child devices" (Hue Bridge, Hue Bridge Bulbs, Hue Bridge Groups, etc.) that it created. I did a lot of testing with Hubitat's native integration when I was writing my own (and I also do this by default in mine, too--something I assume Hubitat intentionally did in theirs too because removing an app will not, by default, remove any child devices it created).

So, while it can't hurt and the first part (switching out all the devices or removing them) is a lot more work, you can probably skip the second if it's any help.

You can replace each of your bulbs with a virtual device as a placeholder before you remove the real device. That way when you get replacements the rules are not broken and you can replace the virtual device with the new physical device.
